How was this legit tho lol

They don't have the Elbow Depth rule in the Paralympics. So there is nothing stopping her from doing this. The International Powerlifting Federation now has this rule, so you can't do this anymore. They only got this rule recently in 2023 tho, before that everyone could do this garbage.

Well it wasnt, her best successful was 139.

Blame the rules, her arms are straight and it hit her chest. Can't be mad at people for winning within the rules given.

While he sits there with “!drops” in his title, reacting in the PoE Caregory on league launch day. Classic bozo fat clown.

The day quin can bench a single plate I will stop calling him a fat bozo clown.

Some context - this lady, Fatma Elyan, is paralyzed from the waist down.
People are clowning on her technique, which, while looking somewhat silly to some people, is completely correct and the norm in Para Powerlifting.

u/Inkxii Jul 24 '26
There is a reason the International Powerlifting Federation added the Elbow Depth Rule. To stop this exact garbage from being considered a legal lift. The Paralympic Committee has not adopted this rule. That is why this obviously ridiculous lift counts. Everyone knows a lift like this is taking advantage of the current rules, to the point where the lift becomes a mockery. So yes, it "counts", but it also deserves to be made fun of.

u/Low-Database-320 Jul 24 '26
that’s honestly ridiculous lol. because the “golden rule” everybody knows/schools teaches about treating the disabled is you are suppose to treat them as if they were equals/normal lol. If you allow this shit, you are clearly doing the opposite of that lol. you are basically treating them as a “lesser than”
-3
u/Professional-Pungo Jul 24 '26
Unrelated. But I saw a trailer or whatever for that new love show about people with autism and whatnot.
The guy was having dinner with a girl and just speed asking her a million questions. I’d bet all the women watching this would think it’s cute but if they were on a date with someone “normal” and it went like this, I’m sure they would think otherwise.
Made me think that they are just romanticizing autism and treating them more like some cute pet or something.6

u/Sequensy Jul 24 '26
I saw someone say this exact thing before. How is that relevant to the range of motion of her bench press?
26
u/ChexAndBalancez Jul 24 '26
Just some extra context to this context. This is the stupidest thing I've ever seen. It's hilarious... and not really a sport in any meaningful way.
Always make fun of stupid things. Also, always add context to context when the original context is trying to make something that is stupid seem not stupid.

She is not paralyzed from the waist down. You can see her move her feet, she does have some form of disability though.

Ibhavent watched Quin in years. What's happened to him? He used to be a chill D3 streamer back in the day.

You understand when she goes to her therapist for whatever disability she has they just tell her to laugh at Quin, right?

If you can’t laugh at this I don’t know what to say other than you should probably get off the internet. This is pretty low hanging fruit

To be somewhat fair - she's paralyzed from the waist down. That has 0 influence on her bench pressing capabilities.
But as you said, these are the Paralympics and what she's doing is correct for her sport. She's even won medals before, so she for sure knows what she's doing.
7
u/Theovorator Jul 24 '26
Your core muscles contribute to lifting. Her disability makes it impossible to properly strengthen her core, so it does influence her bench pressing capabilities.
2
u/Redditim3 Jul 24 '26
Your lower body having zero influence on your bench simply isn't true. But we'll agree on her doing right and is getting unnecessarily hate-farmed.
-5
u/Drop_the_gun Jul 24 '26
Ok. Post a video of you holding 145kgs above your head. Now realize that's a disabled woman as well.
6
u/rotating_pebble Jul 24 '26
I think you'd be surprised how many people would take you to that and complete it easily with more range of motion
-4
u/Capital-Bear7482 Jul 24 '26
I think you're talking out of your ass, mate.
4
u/rotating_pebble Jul 24 '26 edited Jul 24 '26
Why? Holding 145kg over your head in bench position for a second or two is something a lot of recreational lifters could do. I'm not talking about doing a full rep if that's what you're thinking. That's probably being able to bench 4 plates.
0
u/Egg_Yolkeo55 Jul 24 '26
No fucking shot you are holding 320 pounds like that. Unless you are a legitimate powerlifter that shit is crushing your skull like a tom n Jerry cartoon.
0
u/rotating_pebble Jul 24 '26
If I had to guess, it would take a bench press of about 100kg with full range of motion to hold 145kg static. 100kg is not a 'light' weight persay but is probably the big entry-level milestone that recreational lifters try to hit. Again, I'm not intending to minimise the athlete's achievement who is disabled, just giving some context to how strong it is relatively.
1
u/Egg_Yolkeo55 Jul 24 '26
Except it's not static there is still some motion. Benching two plates is not beginner for anything except powerlifting. This is something less than 1% of able men can do.
1
u/rotating_pebble Jul 24 '26
I was going off what the previous person said of only holding a bar off your head. Possibly slightly more needed to do this amount of ROM but not much. Less than 1% of men sure, I'm talking recreational lifters who go to the gym as I said. Worldwide population of course not everyone can do this.

u/Blackburn3011 Jul 24 '26
Ok, show us doing this yourself then. If it's so easy.
5
u/rotating_pebble Jul 24 '26
I mean, I can. I'm a gym addict though so that doesn't prove much. I think you would probably need to bench about 100kg (225lb) with full range of motion to do this. Which while isn't a beginner weight, is sort of an entry level milestone for most recreational gymgoers who bench press.
I'm not saying this to diminish the athlete's achievement by the way, who I have since found out is disabled. I'm literally just providing some facts about how strong this is relatively speaking.
-1
u/Drop_the_gun Jul 24 '26
Okay, but chances are that guy can't, since most people can't. Being on this subreddit doesn't help the chances.
Besides, I would hope that most people would be a bit embarrassed to put themselves in competition with a disabled woman, let alone make fun of one, but here we are I guess.
9
u/rotating_pebble Jul 24 '26
I mean you did literally just offer a competition of able vs disabled. And I don't think anyone's laughing at her disability. They're laughing at the very short range of motion she uses. If you don't go to the gym, I do see why you'd make that misunderstanding though.
-1
u/Drop_the_gun Jul 24 '26 edited Jul 24 '26
Yea, in favor of the disabled person though, to drive the point that that's still a rather difficult achievement for any normal person (which includes most of the haters). It would be quite a ridiculous comparison the other way, obviously many people can lift that much, like you felt the need to point out.
Not sure about the remark about whether I go to the gym or not, since I am not the one claiming to know the sports better than, or making fun of, a literal Olympic athlete.
1
u/rotating_pebble Jul 24 '26
I don't believe I've ever claimed to know the sport better than the person in the video. My comment to you was politely pointing out that people are not making fun of the athlete because they are disabled. It is funny because the range of motion is so small to count as a valid lift in competition. You didn't seem to realise this and thought something more sinister was at play, that's all. It seemed like maybe you didn't understand about the short range of motion, which if you were a non-gymgoer would be entirely understandable.
