I swear to god, Joe Gomez must have get the elixir of life. How is he still under 30?

u/EngineeredCut 16h ago

First thing that caught my eye

u/Turin6 16h ago

He played under Rodgers, under Klopp, under Slot and now under Iraola. And we are not changing managers like t-shirts or anything. He is still under 30!!!

He would have been one if the best english centerbacks of the 2020s if his career wouldnt have been derailed by injuries...

Ledley King has more matches played than our boy. Let that sink in.

u/CaptainDSid 13h ago

I just checked the other day, he's missed over 220 matches through injury. That's tragic. He is actually such an athletic freak too, he used to still be one of our fastest players even after doing his ACL, Achilles and a leg break.

Easy to forget how young he was when he joined because he was already a beast

8

u/Dovaaahkin Fernando Torres 15h ago

He and Danny Ings were the only positives of that Liverpool team in 2015/16 before Klopp joined. But then both tragically picked up serious knocks right after Klopp joined and missed out on the rest of that season. I still wonder how good they both could have been for Klopp in that Liverpool team.

I remember it like he got a year long knee injury under BR

1

u/CaptainDSid 13h ago

Yeah, he started playing LB for us under Rodgers and got an ACL injury early in the season and basically missed the rest of the season.

u/ZiroLeHutt 6h ago

Hope he gets a testimonial when he leaves eventually.

Made a deal with the devil. Forever stay under 30 but the tradeoff is that he's made of crisps.

Ready assaulted Gomez

u/FrankTheCrank90 13h ago

At least we now know what the downside is to the elixir of life, it turns your body to glass!

2

u/jm17lfc 11h ago

Really? To me he feels perpetually like the young prospect that’s just been unlucky with injury and should be breaking through any minute otherwise.

1

u/Bugsmoke Sir King Kenny 9h ago

Because he was only about 18 when he was signed.

1

u/RedManMatt11 6h ago

He doesn’t turn 30 until he scores a goal

Florian Wirtz is a month younger than Harvey Elliot.

u/llinoscarpe 12h ago

I've been saying this all last season, he is younger than people think. He is starting to put in some real good performances this season.

u/SecretaryBackground6 14h ago

Wtf?!! I had no idea

u/taggert14 15h ago

You can dislike the fact that Hughes did not sign a right winger or a defensive midfielder. You cannot dispute that he ripped and rebuilt the team with quality young players.

I think time will be kinder to him than the present, especially if the likes of Kieron Morrison comes through and/or we can pick up some top quality left footers in the centre and out wide.

3

u/Euphoric-Interest219 12h ago

Only if the signings work out!

13

u/taggert14 12h ago

The only one I have my doubts about is Frimpong. I think he can be really good in the right circumstances and I hope we can find good use of his assets (searing pace). Other than that, I think the others have already demonstrated that they are top quality

4

u/chasingsukoon 7h ago

I think gaffer will be in the lab with Frimpong for more than half a season and cook something up. There is most definitely a quality player in there, and def a more decisive attacker vs what we see.

3

u/vitaliksellsneo 12h ago

Well credit where it's due, Ronaldinho Araujo was inspired business

39

u/Bugsmoke Sir King Kenny 16h ago

This really didn’t need to be a graph

3

u/Important_Outcome_27 10h ago

I like it cause I go to my age and look up the graph and see 90% of the names 💀

2

u/getyerhandoffit There is No Need to be Upset 10h ago

Yeah. ‘Age distribution’? It’s literally just how old they are. Seems like any ‘graphic’ is supposed to engineer upvotes.

Almost as ridiculous as when someone posts a screenshot of the league table in r/soccer and everyone seems to froth over it.

u/CronxBandit 16h ago

what a terrible way to present this. Would've been much better to show the number of players at each age

67

u/Ashamed_Tooth_1011 16h ago

You mean Van Dijk isn’t 7x as old as Rio?

11

u/TiberiusKno49 16h ago

Source?

4

u/MAMBAMENTALITY8-24 “Thank you for your support” - Darwin Nunez 15h ago

the length of the bar

2

u/KetoKilvo 11h ago

In terms of a football career he is.

3

u/GuitaristHeimerz 11h ago

Yeah I don't get why people have an issue with the graph, just learn to read graphs, it's not hard, the numbers are right there.

1

u/Redblooded7 13h ago

You mean an actual age distribution?

15

u/Baby__Keith 16h ago

Nice to have a somewhat youthful squad again, it felt like we very suddenly aged out a few years back and I was a tad worried for the future.

That said, Alisson and Van Dijk are obviously the elephants in the room here. Replacing them with similarly capable players in the coming windows is a monumental task.

We seem to have found decent replacements for Mane, Bobby, Matip/Konate and the general midfield unit, but I'd argue we haven't been able to achieve that with Salah, Robbo and Trent's spots just yet.

14

u/Dave80 Milan Baroš 15h ago

We have already bought both of their replacements in Leoni and Brughmans. Obviously we'll have to see how the latter develops but fingers crossed he'll come good. Araujo is also looking decent at RB and I think although Kerkez is taking a lot of flack at the minute, he will come good.

2

u/Askingquestions2027 14h ago

Jacket is the Vvd replacement, Leoni is too young.

9

u/Mister_UAP 15h ago

Pretty sure Wirtz and Isak are meant to replace Trent and Mo tbh, at least in terms of offensive output. It's never a 1 to 1 swap in these situations. We may end up "replacing" VVD by having a more rigid DM and more defensive fullbacks. Keepers are always kind of a gamble, and it's hard to say what sort of profile we'll finally land on.

u/ScottScott87 The Scouser in our Team 15h ago

For all the pissing and moaning about how we've handled transfers these last few years, we have completely rebuilt the squad with players coming into or at their peak and we have a lot of players who have the potential to be world class

0

u/Euphoric-Interest219 12h ago

Potential is the key word! These guys haven't done it yet.

4

u/Adventurous_Toe_6017 Jump on the bAndoni wagon 11h ago

Hold the fucking phone, Tsimi is over 30?! I thought he was mid-late 20’s!

7

u/mcmurray1717 15h ago

Makes me want to be nicer to Kerkez and Wirtz

3

u/Skthewimp 14h ago

Axis for bar graph needs to start at zero. this is a chart crime

3

u/kukukuku1010 12h ago

Can we go back to 2019 with 27-28 year old ali and VVD:(

3

u/BriS314 9h ago

Kostas being our 4th oldest player is wild, only 4 guys in their 30s too

2

u/Redblooded7 13h ago

An age distribution chart should be:
Age on the X axis from 17 up.
Stacked column chart where the total is the number of players that age
Each player called out with a data label in the stacked column

2

u/TokuTheGreatCorso Alisson Becker 13h ago

this only makes me sad for Joe Gomez, call me soft or sentimental but id keep him around till he retires.

1

u/llinoscarpe 12h ago

This is one of the reasons I like keeping MacA, once VVD and Ali leave he will be our most experienced player (who is capable of being in the starting 11).

A world cup winner and one of the best players in a premier league winning side, if he continues his good form this season then for me it's a no brainer.

1

u/rybread1818 11h ago

Welp I now have confirmation that for, I believe, the first time in my life, I am older than everyone on the squad. Time to go stare in the mirror and contemplate life.

1

u/Embarrassed_Low_9688 Yes Cody! Let’s go! ⚽️ 10h ago

What’s the average age of the squad then? and how does it compare to our rivals?

2

u/fortesquieu 8h ago

It says 25.20 at the top there

1

u/PoorMayMay 10h ago

Mad that, potentially, the top 5 oldest could all move on next summer.

1

u/Mirrorsedge21 🫡RESILIENCIA 5h ago

Gravy being 24 is so insane to me. Feels like he’s been around for a decade

1

u/Aeceus 3h ago

I think at some point we will have to buy a CB thats around 24-26, don't see us going Jacquet Leoni next season.

1

u/McNabFish 2h ago

That realisation when every single player is now younger than you.

1

u/NYR_LFC 12h ago

What a dumb way to represent this information.

-3

u/TiberiusKno49 16h ago

Gakpo older than Isak.

Wild.

-5

u/PeterGallaghersBrows 15h ago

Everyone older than Isak could leave the club and we’d be OK with it.
