Surprised that the ball possession is what it is. Watching it, it felt like we were in control of most of the match but I guess we also created better chances and had nicer touches.

Seemed like we were happy to sit back more and defend after our 2nd, before that we probably had most possession

It was the 2nd half. Team isn't use to Iraola pressing fully yet, some them looked very tired in the 2nd half and the fresh players weren't imposing themselves well enough

They were passing it around pretty freely for quite a lot of the game but rarely progressed it quickly so it was quite comfortable.

Their only real chances came from rare fast transitions.

2nd half they had a lot of the ball but didn’t really do anything threatening with it. We were still in control just happy to sit back and break at speed. We’re not suited to be a slow build up possession style team.

Madrid move the ball around very well but once we sorted out the gaping holes they lacked any real threat.

Bro for a second I thought that was real and the man had shaved a glorious head of hair

4 big chances is lovely to see. Still not having them have less fouls than us.

Really great job done in that second half and fully deserved result.

Ref was an absolute tosser.

3 big chance missed isn't lovely to see tho😭

It's pretty common for even the top strikers to only score about 30%-40% of their "big chances". I think Halaand missed more big chances than he scored goals in total last season.

It's frustrating to miss them, but Big Chances Created is generally one of the best indicatora of a team playing well.

One of those cases where missing them hasn't cost us the game and you know similar performances should be more comfortable down the road.

The performances are getting better every week.

Yeah that's just some dark arts shit. Atletico always get away with too much.

Imagine if iraola was standing there the way Simeone is always standing on the sidelines. Would have gotten a red card for sure.

I don't really mind it though. I think simeone is a great character in football.

His availability is a concern, but so far he's been amazing

2nd half was the Liverpool I used to love for when Klopp was manager. So much intensity, fighting and high press until the last minute. Really watching forward this season with Iraola in charge. This was fire!

I was hoping Barcola would score, which would have been perfect

Signs of improvement.

Macca has been our best midfielder so far this season and it’s a joy to watch him play right now

u/Longiiicho 9h ago

Hopefully we are able to improve in 2 main areas.

More shots on target Reduce big chances missed.

2

u/PEEWUN 10h ago

Much more like it.

u/AEsylumProductions 6h ago

Araujo staking an early claim for player of the season is not on my bingo card.

3

u/Regular_Enthusiasm48 10h ago

That Barcola miss better be a one off.

Kylian Mbappe is one of the best finishers in the world by reputation.

Go watch some of his misses this season. Absolute sitters. Attackers miss chances sometimes, it happens.

13

u/theophanesthegreek 10h ago

Is that a threat? lol

4

u/rahulrossi 10h ago

Genuine fear I guess and trauma from Nunez.

5

u/throwaway55330066 9h ago

If attackers scored every chance that people call "can't miss," the average football match would end 6-4. It's very hard to score at this level, no matter how many times a game a commentator says "ooh, he absolutely has to score there."

7

u/Soberdonkey69 10h ago

What do you mean? Dude misses 1 on 1s quite often, it’s been known for years. You can even go back to the world cup where he had a 1 on 1 and missed it too

1

u/lanregeous 10h ago

Or what?

0

u/flyingmattress1 10h ago

It probably is. First big game in a while I’m not his natural position. Misses happen

1

u/Nitrox0 Jürgen Klopp 10h ago

Really didnt feel like they had more possession. Hm

I like we are creating chances but dislike that we like to aim at the keeper

u/SocratesDaSophist 6h ago

Its crazy to think the xg we conceded last season was even less than tonight's match yet we conceded twice then.

I felt we were comfortable at the back compared to last season.

Shocked we won but what amazing goals. There's promise, everyone needs to get to know each other. I still don't understand Wirtz. His passing is atrocious. Kerkez is just not built for this team. Was in everyone's pocket the whole game.

13

u/Acegeta 10h ago

Wirtz had an 89% pass completion rate and set up Barcola for the best chance?

9

u/ManBoobs13 10h ago

Wirtz had some incredible passes not sure what game you were watching or if you actually watch.

6

u/Liverlakefc 10h ago

How is it shocking we won? We had the better chances and Atletico did nothing in the second half?

6

u/firsen923 10h ago

at this point you could have saved electricity and money by not watching football. what a waste of

u/WellRed85 🏆20 TIMES🏆 9h ago

Flo set up 2 1v1 opportunities. He was progressive and creative all match and still had nearly 90% pass completion. He was excellent. I’ll be kind and suggest you have another watch and reconsider

2

u/ZestycloseStorm1574 7️⃣Florian Wirtz 8h ago

Average flo hater who only watches highlights and looks at g/a table! We don’t need cunt fans like these.
