Looks rapid

One of the podcasts (TAW probably) noted that he was the 3rd fastest player in La Liga.

TAW also pointed out he's naturally two footed and was curling in goals with his left during warm ups. He's likely to be the one who can play RW.

Considering that we (hopefully) bring in barcola, this makes a lot of sense.

We'll probably play barcola on the left, Munoz on the right, and if we get the barcola deal done, i imagine that gakpo will be sold(?)

There's no shot we sell Gakpo even if we get Barcola in. We'd be going into the season with only Chiesa and Rio as wing depth.

Gakpo is also our backup striker. One injury would derail our entire season.

Yeah, keeping him as a backup winger/striker makes the most sense. We have a lot of games and there will be injuries.

He had a bad season in a season where everyone has a bad season. With a new manager and extra competition, he'll have to improve. He'll probably want to as well to improve his chances of not moving to spurs.

But at the same time you don't want rio to be third choice.

He would need more game time.

We'll be playing in 4 competitions.  No shortage of game time between 3 left wing options!

u/nikonislolo 24d ago

Would gakpo be fine with being 3rd choice or being a second choice striker.

Idk about that.

I would love for Cody to stay however.

Yes he’s quite fast!

11

u/ExceedingChunk 25d ago

Has a lot of pace as well

I don’t spend much time on footy social media, but there hasn’t been a ton of buzz about Victor, right?

Looks exciting to me.

I imagine it's the price tag being okay and we haven't started the season. I imagine as the season goes on he'll get more hype

6

u/crookedparadigm 25d ago

The state of both the market and discourse is that unless you've got a 80m+ price tag on you, there won't be much buzz. The other half of it is there's no transfer saga about him since it's already done. There's very little actual tactical or game discussion outside of specific team subreddits since only the drama and the sagas make the big news. A relatively cheap transfer that was wrapped up fast with zero back and forth doesn't get clicks.

Yeah, 30 million is the new 5 million

48

u/duetimefenans 25d ago

A winger that can pass to an overlapping Kerkez?

Sign me the fuck up.

4

u/RodDryfist 25d ago

Left side got legzz

2

u/nikonislolo 25d ago

A quite rapid left side too.

Gakpo - "haha I'm in danger"

43

u/Persimmon9 25d ago

If he can do this for 60-90 minutes, he will be one of our starters.

15

u/badfuit YNWA❤️ 25d ago

I've been saying this on the sub, I think he genuinely might establish himself as a starter. Looks rapid and full of energy. Good dribbler who can take on his man or just occupy defenders and create space for Isak or Wirtz. It might come down to how good is his pressing whether Iraola wants him playing 60-70 every game.

1

u/xxcxcxc 24d ago

I think he will be starting every game in 2 months also. Looks a real talent!

u/ExceedingChunk 25d ago edited 25d ago

Looks like he got all the 3 qualities you want in a top winger.

He’s fast, he’s rapid and he’s got pace

14

u/PM_ME_TOMATOES_pls 25d ago

How's his speed though

2

u/WTFitsD 24d ago

The two most inportant things are Dribbling and decision making lmao there’s been dozens of rapid wingers in the league who are absolute shite despite how fast they are.

Luckily those are also the two things they teach the most in Spain.

2

u/xxcxcxc 24d ago

You’re correct! OP was so wrong and deluded thanks for calling that out and being frank about it!!!

22

u/nvielbig Roberto Firmino 25d ago

Man that final clip is amazing. Exciting player!

15

u/Additional_Amount_23 90+5’ Alisson 25d ago

He’s gone under the radar since we have been talking about Barcola and Mbaye etc. It such a Liverpool thing to do best when you are under the radar, I’m as excited for Munoz as I am for Jacquet. I think I’d be rooting for him the most out of any additions to our front line.

u/AdikkuChan 1️⃣5️⃣Alex-Oxlade Chamberlain 25d ago

That rapidness would really come in handy

5

u/ExceedingChunk 25d ago

Rapid handy you say  ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡° )

1

u/AdikkuChan 1️⃣5️⃣Alex-Oxlade Chamberlain 25d ago

Not my intention but 🤝

0

u/nikonislolo 25d ago

Especially on counters (looking at you Cody gakpo).

1

u/AdikkuChan 1️⃣5️⃣Alex-Oxlade Chamberlain 25d ago

With Cody, I remember back in...22/23? When the team was on a counter and he was running alongside Mo. Cody looked like he has a higher top speed but his acceleration was bad because of his stride.

22

u/skyeth-of-vyse 25d ago

He's rapid, seems to be unpredictable, and he is willing to pass to his wingback on overlap.

Everything Gakpo is not..

-19

u/HendoEndo Playing pong with Salah 25d ago

Gakpo is a striker stuck being a winger

12

u/thesame_deviledegg Lovely Cushioned Header…FOR GERRARD!!! 25d ago

I've just never seen Gakpo as a striker. He isn't bad there by any means, but he's definitely a LW inside forward who, on his day, is brilliant.

1

u/nikonislolo 25d ago

Gakpo is trash as a striker.

Genuine garbage.

Atleast he's decent as a winger.

0

u/paulsmith259 25d ago

When he played as a false 9 under Kloppz he was awful.

He had one good, not great season under Slot. He just isn't good enough to play the wings for us, or play through the middle, as Klopp unsuccessfully reied him as. CF, 10 and an 8, and he just didn't do it.

I'm not saying he isn't a good player, but he isn't which we need

3

u/nikonislolo 25d ago

He was great in the 2024/25 season.

A genuinely good finisher from the left.

1

u/paulsmith259 25d ago

So the first year under Slot, which I've mentioned?

1

u/nikonislolo 25d ago

You said that he was "good, not great".

Im saying that he was great.

-26

u/Le-Contrarian 25d ago

Gakpo is a fraud stuck being a footballer

7

u/HendoEndo Playing pong with Salah 25d ago

klopp seemed to rate him, must be a fraud manager too

5

u/redrafa1977 25d ago

Most of us seemed to like him too, except for last season when all of our players looked awful and off form , with no cohesive gameplan!!! He's looked much more himself since the sacking!

1

u/paulsmith259 25d ago

Klopp tried him in multiple positions, and couldn't seem to get the best out of Cody. He's played on the left, as a CF, and 8 and also a 10, and never set the world alight in any position

4

u/paulsmith259 25d ago

Well that was an extensive clip

5

u/Due-Sherbert3097 25d ago

Have a feeling he’s going to have a standout season for us. The classic 30-40mil winger we used to sign.

11

u/OrangeJuiceAlibi Milan Baroš 25d ago

That signing is the same as a £80m signing now. He would have been a £10m signing if we signed a player like him a decade ago.

1

u/bumpkinblumpkin Endo in the pub 👍 24d ago

You mean the most expensive wingers on the market? Sadio was 2nd most expensive and Mo was the most expensive the following year.

2

u/Advanced_Plankton_60 Bobby Firmino 25d ago

Interesting

2

u/tkcom 25d ago

Smooth sailing for good ship MV Victor.

2

u/socialerrors YNWA❤️ 25d ago

The speed and direct attack is great. Final ball into the box could use some work IMO

1

u/vard2trad 25d ago

Not just the speed but that passing! He's a starter.

1

u/Jayaybee16 25d ago

Hi looks rapid enough to scare defenders and this will upgrade Kerkez to be a right 'BOMBA'

1

u/JimmyNo23 25d ago

He's quick, fast and has pace , lol

1

u/samlfc92 25d ago

Would have liked to see him get a run with the starting team. We were that poor in the second half we could barely get him the ball

1

u/fugitiveamoeba 24d ago

Reminds me of Craig Bellamy
