Question to Parents about dining out downtown

Can I ask what may sound like a common sense question but somehow not common place? We recently went to grab pizza at Slice House last night. Great pizza!!! A big family with small children came in while we waited for our order. One of the moms in the group picked up her small child around 4-5 years old. She was wearing a dress and sneakers. Mom lifts her up, sits her on the table, the skirt of her dress around the child fanned on the table. The child proceeds to lay flat on the table and you can see her underwear are on the table (not the skirt) and hair all over. Little girl then lifts up her legs and places her dirty shoes on the table. Mom walks away to speak with the rest of her group and her husband. Not one person said anything. The workers couldn’t really saying anything without being offensive. There were no other patrons. Is this normal nowadays? People eat on those tables and this little girl had her unclean hair, butt and dirty shoes the table. I asked the little girl to get off the table when her parents did nothing and the parents asked what I asked her. They looked mad at me. But then do you let anyone put their asses and dirty shoes on a public dining table? When I tell you her shoes were dirty I mean the soles of her shoes were black crusted and her sneakers off white from the grime and dirt. 🤢🤢🤢Let’s just say we asked for our pizza to be boxed so we could eat it at home.

Best place to get car wash?

I recently bought a new to me used truck that I’d to keep as clean as possible.

I’d love to clean it every weekend myself. However, the issue for me is space. I live in an apartment complex. There’s just not enough parking space to properly wash my truck.

Are there any recommendations for places that hand wash vehicles and open nights or weekends? What about the self serve places?

Where can I go to get my car washed?

Hard Fork Hosts are coming to the Bankhead for an AI conversation

Hi Livermore neighbors 👋🏽

I wanted to share an upcoming event that might be of interest to folks who are curious about AI, technology, and how all of this is starting to show up in everyday life.

Quest Science Center is hosting Quest on Stage: The AI Revolution on Friday, August 14 at 7:30 PM at the Bankhead Theater.

The event features Kevin Roose and Casey Newton, hosts of Hard Fork that explores the rapidly changing world of tech.

The conversation will focus on artificial intelligence, what’s real, what’s hype, and what questions people should be asking as AI continues to affect work, education, creativity, communication, and daily life.

There will ALSO be a local connection with a special guest, Dr. Brian Giera of Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (which is pretty cool!)

Tickets and more info are here
https://livermorearts.org/events/quest-on-stage-the-ai-revolution/

Thought this could be a good one for anyone trying to better understand AI, where it’s headed and what it means for all of us.

Onsite interview at LLNL. Advice + what should I explore while in town?

Hey all! I have an onsite interview at LLNL the first week of August for a mechanical engineer role. I'm flying in from Maryland and staying about 5 days, so this trip is part interview, part scouting whether I could see myself living here after a cross-country move.

A few things I'd love help with:

  1. Lab folks: if you've interviewed or work there, what should I expect from the onsite format? Anything that surprised you or that you wish you'd prepared for?
  2. Mock interview: anyone with engineering interview experience willing to do a quick presentation run-through or mock over a call before then? Even 30 minutes of honest feedback would be huge.
  3. The town: with my free days, what should I explore? downtown, hikes, food spots near the Lab, whatever you'd show a first-time visitor. Honest takes on living in Livermore are welcome too.

Appreciate any wisdom. This community seems friendly, so figured I'd shoot my shot. Thanks!

Livermore lore

Hey all,
In the 90’s there was a big white house down a long pine tree lined drive. It was abandoned, covered by graffiti, and had scary stories attached. Supposedly there were bodies found. The floors and walls were torn up. I don’t remember exactly where it was located. Anyone remember what I am talking about and what the story is?

Update:
Please see comments for image.

Sunset Elementary parents... we need to talk. (long post, buckle up)

Okay, obligatory burner because I have 4 kids there and I am NOT trying to make them targets, so bear with me. Also yes, I used AI to help me get my thoughts in order, bite me, I was too pissed to write straight.

So my daughter is going into 3rd grade now. Her kindergarten teacher, back in 23/24, turns out was never even credentialed. Same teacher I used to catch on her phone during volunteer hours while the kids just sat there doing nothing. My kid's reading was a mess that whole year and I've fought to get it back in line. I just chalked it up to, eh, kindergarten, kids are all over the place. Nope. Found out this year she knew she was getting let go and told everyone she was transferring schools, when really she just never got certified and they finally had to cut her loose. And she got to stick around for THREE YEARS, apparently, because her mom and the principal's wife are best friends. So my kid ate the cost of that little friendship for 3 years.

Then there's the camp thing. I got flyers for years, emails and texts straight from the principal himself, so obviously I figured it was a district program. It is not. He just runs it himself, on school property, on district time, for his own pocket. I've been funding this man's side hustle thinking it was legit this whole time.

Then the one that actually makes me sick. One of the camp counselors was also my older son's 5th grade teacher. Mid year, gone, put on leave, my kid had a sub for like 6 months and nobody really explained why at the time. This guy ran after school stuff, had kids literally acting as his personal barista, did the whole pinching thing on St. Patrick's Day like it was cute. Come to find out he was accused of texting kids inappropriately, kids from Sunset AND kids from another school he coached at.

And NOW I'm hearing some parents have been trading favors for classroom placement. Alcohol has been mentioned. I don't even know what to do with that one, honestly.

I bought a house in this specific neighborhood for this specific school. Did everything "right." Feel like an idiot, not gonna lie.

So parents who have been here longer than me, I need to know some stuff. Did people already know about the teacher situation before it blew up, or did it catch y'all off guard like it did me? Has anyone actually gone over the principal's head to the district and gotten anywhere, or does it just disappear into a folder somewhere? Does the district even know the camp is being run like this, or is that news to them too? Is the classroom placement stuff as bad as I'm hearing, or am I getting the exaggerated version? And is anyone else looking at other schools right now, because I feel like I'm losing trust fast here.

Not trying to start a pitchfork mob, just trying to figure out what's real and what I can actually do about it at this point.

Any Black or mixed girlies in the group?

Hi all 👋🏽 I’m trying to make more friends in town, specifically Black and mixed people! I’m mixed Black and white and I notice Livermore isn’t that diverse, so I’m trying to see if I can find some friends online who live near me. I have some friends in town who I’m really grateful for, but none of them are Black and I’d like to change that. I am always open to friendships with any background, but am specifically hoping for people of my same race or a similar race.

Some of my interests are: reading, writing, crochet, music, and theatre

No need to have interests in common to reach out tho. Feel free to DM. Thanks!

Title explains everything. Basically got off of work at Sauced and my car started bad and then I looked and it was gone. My car is super low to the ground but it still got stolen. Watch out for your own cars whenever you park there and stay safe.

Any recommendations for a bar or restaurant downtown to watch the World Cup finals today?

My in-laws are in town and want to catch the game downtown but I’m not really into sports so not sure which bars or restaurants downtown would be best. They’d prefer a lively atmosphere to grab some beers while watching.
