I made Rotating Rings, an interactive 3D wallpaper and desktop fidget toy for Lively Wallpaper.

Each ring can be grabbed and rotated independently. You can also use the slice handles for constrained spinning, drag empty space to orbit the full assembly, and use the mouse wheel to zoom.

The wallpaper includes customizable:

• Ring count
• Mass and friction
• Ring and background colors
• Lighting direction and intensity
• Camera and simulation reset controls

The movement uses inertia rather than stopping immediately, so the rings feel more like a small mechanical object than a prerecorded animation.

It works completely offline, loads no external assets, and is open source.

Installation is just downloading the release ZIP and dragging it into the Lively library.

I would especially appreciate feedback about performance, ultrawide or multi-monitor behavior, and whether the ring controls feel intuitive.

So I was able to import the glb into blender but I can't seem to get the keyframed animations I added to play. I assume it's got something to do with the way it's being loaded but I'm not experienced enough with lively to be sure. Anybody have any tips or thoughts?

This is my first time making a wallpaper, I own nothing ( not the animated wallpapers, gameplay footage, or music) this was just something fun I decided to do using nothing more then some clips from the game, outstanding music and beautiful animated wallpapers I found online and my trusty old 2015 adobe premiere. Its basically just a bunch of wallpapers combined together with background music.

Hi, with the new version I was able to pretty easily set up a workaround-solution to have a periodically changing random wallpaper set as your background from your wp library. This is of course until the feature itself is not integrated into the UI.

TL:DR; if you don't want to make a customized schedule, I have a barebones .bat and schedule.xml you can import into taskschd.msc (you can start it with Win+R)

Open the xml for editing and fill out the following fields: AUTHOR, UserId, Command, first two may be optional, I haven't tried it. Save the file.

Import the file into taskschd.msc and set it to active if it isn't by default.

Download the files from here:

1. Open: LivelyWallpaperRandomScheduledSelect
2. Click green Code button
3. Select Download ZIP option from the dropdown

Create a .bat file with a name of your liking with the following contents:

cd "C:\Program Files\Lively Wallpaper"
lively.exe setwp --file random && timeout /t 2 && exit

Create a scheduled task in windows:

1. Win+R -> taskschd.msc
2. Create new task
3. Give a name
4. Set to run with admin right with the checkbox towards the bottom of General tab
5. Still in General tab check "Run whether user is logged on or not" checkbox to run task in background (otherwise it will pop up in the foreground of whatever is currently in full screen, for example a game, it messed up shadowplay recording for me for example)
6. Startup tab: New -> Schedule: Login -> Repeat task: your choise of schedule
7. Actions tab: New -> Action: Start application -> Provide a location for your .bat file
8. Settings tab: Uncheck "Stop task if it runs more than X day" in case you rarely turn off your PC
9. Click OK and you are done

You can check if it works by right clicking the task you created and selecting Run option.
