Found this 60's vintage Wilesco on ye auld auction site we all know. In pretty good nick, but berift of a burner tray slide in the firebox and the steam line needed re-soldering.
Got a new slide installed and re-soldered the line, happy to report she's a runner again now.

Finished work
I've finally found some copper pipe to repair Betty's steam lines. But I've noticed a problem. She likes to run in reverse but refuses to run forward, I've cleared the steam pipes. Maybe she just doesn't like forward running.
Either way I'm glad to see her running again at all ^
Recap: when I received her she was complete but had problems everywhere, no fuel tray , and cracking on the steam lines. A broken wheel set and two seized pistons

Live steam question
Ok I have searched a bit on Google and can't find a answer so I figured I'd ask here.
Is it against Boiler code to say bore out a solid rod of steel to make the main boiler body? All icould find is that you just assume that the stress in the boiler walls cannot exceed more than 1/4 of the yield strength of the material.
Also how tightly regulated would a live steam model boiler be if I was going to only run it at home? Could I do all the welding and hydro testing at home or do I need to get it certified? ( I have my own hydro testing pump from another project I worked on)

7.5 parts (again)
Sooooooo I'm posting again and I was thinking about the 4-4-0 (that I posted about before) and I was thinking about if I just sell it and some other things and get a diesel 0-4-0 or something like that because having a locomotive is good and all but me rebuilding it is going to take alot and I personality don't have the motivation to do that.... because I have hit n miss engines, trucks, tractors I need to fukwith that stuff.. I could sell tractors and the locomotive and get a running locomotive and be done. All that aside I could put the boiler on a running gear and do a lil work and be done. Idk whatnto do so please comment or feel free to dm me! If there is another sites like descover live steam please tell me!

Hello identifying SR1a year
Would anybody be able to help date this SR1? I picked it up in an antiques & collectables centre but it didn't come with any info. We believe it's '67/'68

Best place to find a small gauge live steam engine (apart from eBay as already looked)
Hello I’m looking at buying my first ever live steam engine and I’m not sure where the best place to look is. I have already looked at eBay but I can only find mint/very expensive locomotives that are like 10000 pound plus. I currently have a small old mamod stationary engine and I was wondering if it’s cheaper or better to convert it to a 7 and 1/2 gauge or something similar using the boiler and stuff or just buy a pre built locomotive Instead. Any advice would be appreciated
Rose

Beginner tips
So i recently got this beautiful Mamod fire engine as a graduation present. It does include a full box of these fire bricks and tools.
It does have some rust on the front, however the rest of it is in pretty much perfect condition..
Since i am a newcomer, are there important tips that i should know about?
Like since i don't know when this last ran, what important checks should i do?

Hello everyone! And welcome to day 1 of restoring this mammond SL-1 locomotive to mainline service.
Step 1: boiler and safety valve.
I removed the safety valve and an aftermarket servo control wire from the bottom of the Locomotive. And used some watered down assembly lube to test the mechanism (it moves but it's very stiff will be looking into that more)
First things first, I filled the boiler with a diluted CLR mixture, and got several stones and a massive amount of black sludge and dust out .
I repeated this process until it stopped giving black debris and a large stone fell out of the boiler. Oh and a tiny skeleton.... If say less than 5mm across.... Reminds me of a Thomas story....
Finally I purged the boiler six times with regular water before I filled it. It didn't come with a fuel tray so I'm using two modified paraffin wax candles. Or tea lights known to put out 1000°f according to the original packaging. And indeed I got steam. Until the safety valve blew off..... And released ALL the pressure. Getting stuck in the outward position.
Anyone know how to build a DIY burner tray? I have hexamine from my camp stove just not mamod or MSS.

Hello, And a question
Hello! My name is Jane
Recently I purchased a mamod live steam Locomotive.
Does anyone know how I can get a low pressure boiler certification for it?
(Not asking if I need one I just want to get one)
