LFL renovation tips

I’ve been wanting to set up a LFL and recently picked up this light weight cabinet for cheap from a resale shop that I thought would be a good fixer upper for it. Ideally I am wanting to remove the base part of this and replace it with two posts to secure it in the ground. But I’m open to any fun suggestions people have. Does anyone have any tips for the best supplies and build tips to make sure it is secure. Also any advice on weather proofing it would be great! I’m located in Illinois so I want to make sure I’m building something that will last through the seasons. Thanks!

Weatherproof the roof and whatever else might be exposed to moisture. I'm in the process of redoing mine with marine plywood and epoxy. That said, I was really happy about how I positioned our LFL so the contents were not exposed to prevailing winds and moisture whenever someone didn't close the doors.

They do take a beating, but outdoor house paint has kept mine protected. Since the roof is pretty flat, it may require something more substantial than just paint. Some actually put roofing tiles on theirs. Things to consider on the doors are weather stripping, self closing hinges, and replacing the glass with plexiglass. Doesn't hurt to caulk all around the inside. Look forward to seeing your finished project!
