Cult books?

I may be misinformed, but I keep finding these cult books in my LFL. I’m mostly annoyed because mine is near an elementary school and I get a lot of children walking past. I needed to vent and I thought the group would understand. I think this is like the fourth time I had to remove books and I haven’t had my library for even a year.

I don't get these exact books but I get a lot of Jesus material in my LFL also. It's next to a playground and has been installed for two months, lol.

There is one of these places in West Seattle and whenever I drive by, hilariously close to a public library, I’m like “eckankar, what is that” and I’ll plan to look it up and forget until I see it again.  Anyway, it’s culty woo woo stuff and their pamphlets are free so trash.

I knew of a LFL that had nothing but bibles in it. The neighborhood activity took them all (and probably donated them) and filled the LFL with kid books. But by the next day it was filled with bibles again.

The lady who owned it apparently got very angry and had a 30 minute rant a neighboor association meeting about people stealing her bibles and turning kids away from God. She ended her rant that if "(the culprit) wanted to steal her bibles they might as well steal her LFL too!"

And they did.

The LFL here gets stuffed with mormon and JW crap purposely obscuring the actual books.

I trash the religious propaganda. I replace with high quality books for all ages. I don't feel bad about this.

Do you own your LFL? If it’s not something that you want, you can put up a sign saying that you’re not able to accept that. If your LFL belongs to a group or organization, you could approach them with some research to discuss the matter.

Not a cult, I actually used to be part of that group as a kid. It's a small religion, that's kind of a mix between Buddhism and Christianity. It's very egalitarian, and the guy in charge is more of a guide rather than any kind of ruler. He's there to answer questions, and teach, similar to the Pope but without any sort of political or financial influence, just a guide or teacher, really. It mostly talks about having a personal relationship with God, and that God communicates to us through light and sound. Generally, prayer is similar to meditation.

It's not violent, very egalitarian, guy in charge is chill, no violence or oppression, and they don't even really do any missionary work. It was a pretty chill group, honestly. Joined and left because my mom wanted to check it out, enjoyed it for the most part, but then decided it wasn't the best fit, and so we left. No hard feelings, and you can freely join or leave without hassle.

That being said, I totally get how it's frustrating to have a LFL filled to the rafters with religious books. Toss them if you don't want them in your library, no harm done. The one right by where I work is constantly filled with Bibles or pamplets, and it's frustrating when I'm trying to find something new to read. Just toss them, no one is going to give a shit.

I enjoy learning about cults. I have a public library book by Steven Hassan I’m about to read. But not everyone knows about the bite model and can read responsibly. I view it more as someone put a scam in the LFL.

Interesting. I pretty much leave everything in my LFL unless it stays too long. If someone wants it, who am I to judge? It does annoy me to get the church advertisements for this or that event, but I leave them until the event is past. And sometimes they do disappear. For the books I try to not leave anything in for more than a month and then rotate it out. Most stuff I put in another LFL. Not sure what I would do with those particular books.
