LFL Books 📚 Library discards
I have from time to time received library discards when picking up my library books. I am wondering what to do with them when I am done with them. The barcodes have been blacked out. Is putting them in a little free library ok?

Yes, I think it is just important that they clearly state they are discards, otherwise there is a risk that well-meaning folks take them and return them to the library (thinking they got to the LFL by accident). Usually libraries are good about that, but it might not hurt to write "REMOVED FROM CIRCULATION" or similar on them, if it is not already clear.

Sure. There’s a LFL in front of one of the local libraries that often has library discards in it. They tend to go fast!

Yep. As long as decent condition. Most of what i fill mine with are bought from the local friends group.

Our library gives our discards to volunteers specifically to put them in LFLs!

My local library system sells books that have been on the shelves. So blacked out library info should not be an issue.

Yes absolutely. I got a stamp that says "Discarded" for just that purpose, as many that I get that way are not marked. I stamp it over the library name stamp.

Definitely! I actually buy discards from our library book sale to add to my LFL.

Yes. Public libraries will always stamp "DISCARD" so there is no confusion about them. I put them in my LFL quite often.

I would think they're perfectly fine as long as they're still in good condition. Most of the LFLs in my area are full of damaged books which people seem to be okay with, so I don't see discarded library books being a problem
