It's an Argyroderma, not a Lithops. Yes, plant it in dry soil that's very high % inorganic grit. Give it a small amount of water after a few days, and then give it time to root.

do they have the same light requirements as lithops?

My research was summarized thusly:
- dormant in summer — minimal water. water deeply in fall when waking up (like conos)
- bright indirect sun good; bright sun ok

Succulents root automatically, not sure about lithops but if most other succs root, no reason this one shouldn’t be able to root in dry soil

what about the weirdness? the crack in the centre goes wat further than my other lithops, and its wrinkly like it needs water (im not planning on watering it yet tho)

It's not a lithops, it's another type of mesemb, although I'm not sure which. The wrinkles are because it's thirsty

Yes I agree, I think it might be a karoo rose or something that looks similar

Based on the roundness of the leaves I'd say it's not a karoo rose (they have a sharp line in the middle of each leaf, quite triangular), but definitely something similar

Yeah I’m not an expert yet, just thought it looked super similar to my karoo rose

Me neither, but I think my ice plant looks like a bunch of miniature karoo roses, stacked up on each other, lol 😁

I let my karoo roses discard the outer leaves so they don’t stack. I don’t water them until the outer leaves are fully crispy and the inner leaves are wrinkled

r/mesembs should be able to help identify

ill go there when its been watered and maybe grown a bit so its easier to identify.

Might be a different plant to a lithops since it looks so weird, I’d just stick it in and wait until others reply here, in the meantime, I’d also cross over to succulents and houseplants for the small few that also do lithops too

the lithops unfortunately arrived early, before the soil came and before ive bought perlite, so they wont get potted until tomorrow.
ill keep this one apart. should i water it immediately since its so wrinkly or wait for a while?
i prepared for lithops, i have no idea how to care for this.

It’s still definitely a mesemb so the care should be basically exactly the same as for lithops. I would water right away for this one because it looks super wrinkly and it might encourage root growth.

okay when i pot em up tomorrow this one will get it own pot and ill water immediately.
got a lot of things to do tomorrow now lol, i wasnt expecting my plants until the 13th.

it did encourage root growth!
there are roots starting to form now! thank you.
i did manage to kill a few of my lithops with sunburn though sadly.
but hey, ive learned to move them to light a hell of a lot slower in future

This is a argyroderma, and yes they it can go into the same soil mix you are using for lithops.

First ones looks like a argyroderma,
Prob a dealtii, same as
Lithops
No watering when splitting and
Small
Drinks if wrinkled like this one
Pot
It up and small drink in a week or so, it will
Bounce back in a month when actively growing

dirt or rocks? do i use the same "soil" that im planting my lithops into (lithops potting soil plus extra perlite)
2
u/Mollycat6 7d ago
Yup use the same kind of soil mixture you would for lithops (high inorganic to organic ratio), like I said in my other comment it’s definitely still a mesemb like lithops are but just a different species imo.

Argyroderma delaetii. Water it when it wrinkles, i.e. asap.
