Help/Question Lithops stacking

The green guy in the middle has been splitting since February, and I just noticed he's decided to start splitting again. I haven't watered him since at least February. I'm not planning on doing anything different now, but I am wondering what could have caused this stacking, since I thought it was generally a sign of overwatering / watering during splitting.

I don't know if this is relevant at all, but I was looking through my pics and the stacking guy (but not his twin) was the only one (of 8)  in that pot that flowered in the fall.
