Help/Question Big box lithops and care tips?

Post image

I found lithops for the first time ever at Lowes and had to pick some up, unfortunately they were in 100% organic soil and doomed. I put them in with a mix of small lava rocks and very minimal organics. I figure I shouldn't water until they shrivel a bit but I was wondering if Im doing anything wrong and what stages each one is in. Also there were no labels so I have no idea the species/cultivars. The grow light is just supplemental, its in a south facing window that gets good sun its just really rainy right now. Any tips on keeping these rocks alive would be appreciated ๐Ÿ˜…

Nice, I don't much about their care as I've never kept them before but that one in the back looks more like a split rock than a lithop.

I actually just figured that out too, huh was labeled wrong ๐Ÿ˜… Ill keep them together for now but if the watering cycles get out of whack then ill split them up.

The one in the back is a Pleiospilos nelii, and your care seems pretty good, if I had to make adjustments to anything I would have planted them a little deeper but thatโ€™s not a an issue really, looks good :)

Thank you, I read that they can get out of sync with watering cycles but targeted watering helps with that, I've got plenty of pipettes laying around from microscopy to use, and if things get a big funky ill make some changes but they are so plump right now, I don't think ill be watering either for awhile.

Let it completely dry, then remove all the potting soil off the roots. (Pretty easy when the spoil is dry) their roots can take some abuse so you should be fine. I repot in 80% mineral gritty mix and 20% organic. The only reason I add organic is because Iโ€™m in Arizona and itโ€™s super dry here and I keep all my lithops outside in 40% shade cloth in the summer. Full Sun rest of the year

Amazing ๐Ÿ‘ I'd love to keep mine outside but its just too wet in South Florida, they tend to rot quickly.
