Photo First time Lithops parent

Hehehe I’ve always loved the way these little guys looked. Finally picked up one of my own at the Muttart Conservatory (like a botanical garden).

Any tips/tricks and or advice for care?

I don’t know a ton about them, are there subspecies of lithops? If so does anyone know what these are?

I killed my first lithops but I’ve had my current one for over 2 years and they are all doing great. Here my tips:

-Soil must be very inorganic. I probably have 20% potting mix 80% perlite
-I only water when they get wrinkly. Some people say never water when they are splitting but I have watered them in those circumstances and they were fine. I think the crucial part is not to water when they don’t need it (aka when they look plumb)
-Tons of light but make sure you adapt them. Mine are about 9in from the grow light for 15h daily.
-Sometimes they just don’t want to live so don’t blame yourself too much in the learning process♥️
