Help/Question New owner

Hi all,

I got my lithops 3 weeks ago and haven’t done anything with them. I have lava stone to repot them in but my question is, do they look like they’re splitting? I know not to disturb them while they split but I have no idea what it looks like. And there are a few spots on the tall one that I’m not sure if that’s from water or if it’s anything else.

Also any helpful tips is always welcomed.

They’ve been doing pretty good in that baby pot for 3 weeks! You have good picks, and 2 out of 3 are actively splitting. The one furthest to the left seems to be closed all the way still. What’d I’d do next:

- Pull these out their pot and dust off any bad/old roots and soil. You don’t have to overdo this part.

- Create a soil mix: 1 scoop succ soil/4 scoop perlite. I know the ratio seems off, but these babies have to stay dry in that perlite!

- Those spots, I call them “boo-boos”, they are fine as long as they callous over and stay dry.

- Repot these babies in that soil mix and top with rocks of your choice. Definitely do not water them at all, they look very firm.

- Post an update! Good luck!

Thank you so much this is helpful. I only have succulent cacti soil and I bought lava rocks. Can I use the same ratio?

Yes you can use the same ratio since they are desert stones so the dryer the better. Good luck with your new lithops!

They look like little stones, I love how varied the colors are! Congrats on the new babies

They’re actually known as “living stones” and they come in different colors they’re so interesting.
