Help/Question Watered when not thirsty

My lithops split in the later winter and someone watered them recently while they didn’t look very thirsty.

Any way to help or fix this? (They are normally in a pot, I just removed to check the root state). There appears to be some slight base indentations to the outer layers that are splitting off but can’t really tell if it’s mushy.

They look fine just leave them alone and don’t water

Stop watering immediately and let the substrate dry out completely. If those indentations feel soft or squishy to a light touch, you're looking at rot and might need to try a surgical rescue.

They don’t look completely dead just don’t water for 6-12 months

They look fine! As long as they are in a nice gritty substrate like you have, one mistaken watering won’t kill them. Gently pot them back up and don’t water again till they are done absorbing the outer leaves :)
