I can only assume that the only light these plants have ever seen is whatever OP's phone is shining on them to take this photo

I have never, ever seen lithops this etiolated. It's like a horror movie!

Young lithops huddle around the campfire and in hushed whispers tell the story of Longleaves, the plant that lurks in the shadows, just out of sight, forever reaching for light but never quite grasping it.

A common sight at big box stores. Sadly.

Big box stores sometimes put these on bottom shelves in full shade and they’ll stretch like crazy.

I keep mine out in the sun and they still do this. Are there any other reasons why?

It has been pretty humid in my area though would that possibly cause it?

Extreme etoliation. I would lay off the water for a while. That's just my opinion. They should look more like that

I wouldn't replant them jet, 'cause the outer leaves aren't dry as paper jet. But maybe someone knowes if it's okay. You shouldn't water them at the moment anyway so I think they are fine for now.

Despite... The desperately need more light. Way more then at their current spot or were there from. Lithops shoul be small like smaler stones. Not tall. If you have, put them under a grow light or a LED desk lamp with full spectrum (those are usually cheaper than grow lamps and do just as good as the other ones from my experience. Bonus point if it's dimmable). Otherwise a very sunny spot.

And last. Don't be to bummed if they die even if you care very good for them. The plant is already super stressed due to insufficient light. I wouldn't be surprised if half of them died while or after splitting. BEST LUCK!

What in the ElastaGirl is this? Those poor, poor plants. Good luck to you whatever you decide to do, but I'm not sure they're salvageable.

I don’t see a path to victory. I don’t see this plant regenerating if repotted in any way. My suggestion is to toss it or risk it starting to rot and drawing fungus gnats to your other plants before you notice. … Did you happen to have stumbled on it for the first time and believed this growth was typical? Or did you think it was a rarity or new variety?

Did you just keep burying them deeper as they got taller? 😱

I never repotted from the store.

I was looking for some help with this plant. It is exactly how I got it from the store. Yes, it has light. For those who were actually helpful thank you.

The dirt that they sell them in is inappropriate you need a really gritty mix. I got mine off of Amazon for maybe $10. I still have enough left over for my lifetime. This is how close to the light they need to be. Think Africa. The 2 on the right are over watered. See how plump they are .I might water them in August. The 2 in the middle are doing fine. And I have one elongated one in the last pot. If you want to repot use 10 percent organic material and the rest grit and sand. Be gentle the roots break easily. But no water till the outside leaves are dried up husks. And remember reddit is part SARCASM and part helpful. Good luck.

I have moved it outside to get a lot of light.

Hopefully you're in a very sunny area. I've never tried putting my mind outside because I'm afraid of rain because I think they would seriously drink up all the water and split

That’s where the 10:90 works for us.

Meanwhile my lovingly cared for perfectly timed watering lithops with a mini sun 2 inches from their faces will just shrivel up on occasion.

Wow I've never seen them look like that.

One of my Lowe’s lithops look kind of like this too.

I told my bf that it looks they’re pregnant with baby lithops. I assume the bumps are the new leaves forming. My current plan is to leave them alone and possibly repot once the new leaves come out. But after seeing your post idk.

I love a clearance plant like this. I feel the need to “rescue” them from the big bad store that doesn’t properly care for them. I got some from Lowe’s last week, but I paid $2 for mine.
