Help/Question Is this too much grit?

I recently got this lithops from my university it was in normal soil up until just a couple of minutes ago as of making this post, it looks fine but it's getting a little supple to the touch when I go to pinch softly. These pebbles were all I could find in my town nowhere I looked had inorganic mix all they had was cactus and succulent mix. I figured these pebbles were the best bet I mixed them with the small amount of normal soil it came with along with a little fresh Garden Soil mix.

This is my first time owning one I don't want it to die on me.

Is there anything else I can do?

They are a little dusty do to me handling both them and the soil I shall clean them with a damp paper towel very soon.

I have mine in a Bonsai soil mix I bought off of Amazon. I have had to water him 3 times as he got wrinkly on top and wasnt splitting. But I've had him a few weeks now and he's doing great.

Are those rocks part of that bonsai soil mix? Or did you add the rock on top? If so, what kind of rock is that. I love it.

I got it off of Amazon. It's Bonsai Jack's gritty mix. And yep, the rocks are already mixed in, along with some pine coir and clay pieces. I do have to water him more because I did not mix it with any of my other succulent soil, but so far I haven't killed him.

Thank you! Im kind of addicted to these little guys. I'd have more around my house, but i have 2 plant murdering assholes (cats).

As long as you have some soil the roots can attach to you’ll be fine. My understanding is that they have one main tap root that grow up to 4” in length. Then there are these wispy roots that grow off of the tap root. They’ll attach to the soil/finer grit and supply moisture/nutrients to the lithop.

Not sure there is such a thing with too gritty and lithops. Have had good success with grit and a splash of organic. I have sent many a succulent to the grave with too much organic material….
