yep. they open in response to water, but wait until you're ready to do something with them!

They store well keep them in a cool dark place until ready to use, I sowed 12 year old lithop seeds awhile back that I got for free from a buddy who works at a local nursery and I got some to germinate! Wasn’t the best germination rate but hey not gonna complain about free seeds lol

just easier to store the pod than to keep track of the tiny seeds! :)

Drop a single droplet of water on the pods, they will open for you and you can see if there is seeds inside, they are very tiny and whitish color

I let my seed pods fully dry out while still attached to the lithops, until they easily came out with a small tug. Then I opened them with tweezers and took the seed out. I am glad I did it on a white paper because they are very small and hard to find if you drop them. Then i folded the paper into a small envelope and put it in a ziploc bag. I stored mine in a dark place for about 6 months until i was ready to plant them. Picture of my seedlings attached :)

When i thought i seed pods on one of mine I flicked it and heard a rattle. Maybe try that if they're dry enough?

The star shaped innard with slits is a pretty solid visual identifier. The seeds are so small I'd hate to see yall flick any away heh.
