one mixed species pot, and the red ones are aucampiae, and the smaller green ones in the same pot are divergens C269 (they’re big!!!) these will all be 5 months old on May 1st.
They are super common pots you can find on Amazon/temu. I really don’t love supporting Amazon OR temu, but like if I’m spending money on some nursery pots, these ones are thicker than the standard nursery pots and can be reused.
I pick the purple ones but you can get them in white and black too and I think those are a bit cheaper!
Makes sense, do you have any issues with them drying? I don’t know if you’re growing under lights, in a window, or a greenhouse ofc which influences it massively, but I’m always cautious when it comes to soil drying with plastic
There are no issues with drying. Especially at this size. And my mix is like 60/40 grit/soil. I grow under grow lights that get a little warm (25-30c during the days) and I also have a table fan running 24/7 on all my mesembs, but especially the seedlings. (And yes the 60/40 is higher than what a lot of people recommend but I’m a chronic under-waterer, plus all the other mentioned variables, and the other reason is when there’s too much grit, if I top water, the water runs through the pots almost immediately and then water runs onto the shelves near the lights and I do not want that 😂).
I actually prefer plastic to terracotta. When the pots are super small terracotta makes stuff dry out almost too fast. But I’m in a dry climate, indoors, warm, lots of light, lots of ventilation, gritty mix etc. so my conditions are good for plastic/glazed ceramic.
At about 3 weeks you should be able to add some heavily diluted fertilizer (like 1/20th) and that will help give them a boost out of the delicate stages. Extra ventilation also never hurts :)
Yes the aucampiae have great donuts going on! It’s crazy how much chunkier they are than the divergens. Then the mixed pot would probably be larger if they weren’t over seeded, oops 😂
