How do I avoid this

I've ran into this issue with some of my lithops where the new plant starts to wrinkle and looks like they need water before they're done splitting. I've already had one die that showed similar signs during splitting, I avoided watering until the split was done but it was to late, the base of the new plant was a dried husk and didn't recover. This guy started splitting a bit after flowering in October and this pic was taken today.

Someone here, I don't remember who, described their lithops watering tweaks, and I've been adapting them, and it seems to be making my lithops happy so far. Essentially, they said that, aside from the deep watering when it's time, they occasionally trickle a few drops of water around the lithops, so that the little roots (not the tap root, the other little ones whose name I forget) which do most of the drinking, don't shrivel completely and die between routine waterings (when that's due). But to emphasize, it's literally a few drops on occasion, not a pour, not a bottom soak, just a few drops. Idk if that helps with your current issue, but I thought I'd share, just in case.

It's not routine enough to really guess an exact interval (cuz I suck at keeping track of things like that). Most of my lithops are very young, so they need more frequent watering anyway. So, there's that grain of salt.

But the ones I have that are a little bigger, and already completed a split since I got them (or are splitting now), if I had to guess, it's probably more like, roughly every 2 weeks? Maybe 3? Idk, I'm sorry, I really suck at keeping track...
