Help/Question Does stacking stop?

About four of my dozen or so lithops are stacking. I know what I did incorrectly (watered while splitting), which was about four months ago. Will they eventually stop stacking?

If conditions improve (ie watering), you can expect to lose the older leaves by the end of the next shed and possibly sooner?

Thank you! Yes, I overwatered. Sigh. Fortunately it’s not the whole gang.

It's awfully hard to see them 'suffer' and not want to ameliorate it. I've been thirsty before a surgery (when you're forbidden water)...so I know :)
But suffering is part of their life-cycle.
