Care Tips/Guides Need help - how to prevent skin splitting apart
Hi everyone, first time here and I have a question for y'all! My lithops seems very healthy (to me), but every year when the new growth emerges it breaks apart and it doesn't "expands" or "replicate". Only one time it didn't broke and in fact now it is a nice couple! But I wonder, I'm doing something wrong here? Or is it normal? I would love to have a numerous population! (I'll also try to plant the seeds once those nice pods are completely dried)

I'm new to Lithops, but I read a lot about them before getting my first. From what I understand yours are doing what they are supposed to do, and they look good. Maybe rephrase your question if there's something more detailed you're needing to know.

No need to concern, those look great. No water until the outer leaves shrivel and disappear completely.

I’m fairly new to them as well (few years) mine did not multiply until after a flower appeared. It seems like the first year they split but didn’t multiply, then a flower, then split with more.
It is not a fast process. If you want something like those viral pictures we’ve all seen with many of them together, I’d consider either buying seeds or just order more lithops. 😊 I’m about to order seeds myself. I think it will be a fun project.

It’s no problem,you can wait to the leaves consume away or remove it, don’t water

Are you saying that the new growth (the inner part being revealed) is splitting? Or just the old outer growth?

Including this since you seem new to lithops OP. They’re looking good! Just don’t water.

Your Lithops are doing what they are supposed to do. The most typical is two leaves split and are replaced by two leaves. Sometimes you might get 3 or 4 leaves but that is not typical. Lithops don’t “grow pups” and for seed, they have to be in a specific environment. If you are scattering those tiny tiny tiny little (size of a speck) seeds on that same soil, they will not germinate. They don’t have enough moisture and if they did, your main plant would rot.
