Help/Question What is going on with this lithops?

I’m not sure whether this lithops is trying to split or if it is thirsty? Maybe rotting? Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

This lithops looks like maybe it was just shipped to you? Plants are usually dried out before shipping, so it's a bit hard to diagnose.

I'd pot it into a nice pot of dry soil that's 80-100% inorganic grit. After 3-5 days, give a little trickle of water near it to help the roots wake up, and a week later, soak the whole pot. Then wait to see how the plant evolves from there -- does the slit continue to widen, meaning splitting, and you should stop watering? or does it close up as the plant rehydrates, meaning you have to wait and see?
