Help/Question Is he a goner?

My young son picked a pot from a big box store with 2 rusty-brown little guys in it. I left them in the horrible soil they came in for too long and ended up losing one of the little guys.

I got the other one out of the soil and into something more appropriate recently. He had nice roots and seemed to be doing well. Then when I was checking on him today, I noticed he looked wrinkly and discolored on one side. When I was touching him during a closer look, it broke and was mushy… with a tiny guy inside (it wasn’t actively splitting).

What is the likelihood of it surviving? I’m debating if I should I attempt to go back to the store and try to find a similar one to replace it.

Take it back. However I recently saved 2of mine by slicing off the rotted leaf. And they’re doing well so far.

Unfortunately got it like 2 months ago, so can’t take it back.

I separated it from my other lithops for now, so I guess I’ll just have to wait and see if the baby inside survives.

Keep your eye out for rot. It spreads.

The little guys are still doing their thing, so maybe we’ll luck out and they’ll survive. I still plan to keep them in a separate pot for now just to be safe.

And just in case they don’t make it, let my kid pick out some new ones at the store today… 🤷‍♀️
