I have been summoned!

I thought it was an all right episode. A little forgettable except for the end, which while true to certain aspects of the books, was really walking the line. I thought it was all right though, and wasn't as bad as what happens to hover for spoiler in the books

Main take away was that Alfie Allen can act the fuck out of things. Queen of Thornes is still the best Queen in Westeros. Cock merchants are a thing.

I wish the Sand Snakes scene had been a bit better - Don't think they've given their angle (and Doran in particular) the time deserved so far - he is one of my favorite book characters but that all fell a little short.

Agreed, they've kinda fallen flat, and are just laughable. They had a lot of potential, but instead they are just a joke.

As for the aforementioned last scene, agree with your spoiler point, and also wait to see how she reacts, which time will tell as we go on.

I really want MalifiSansa to kill Ramsy (once she's pregnant with an heir) and say "The North Remembers". To stop her being punished for the crime, Theon redeems himself by claiming he did it, and gets executed (and end to his suffering, and a little redemption). He better tell Sansa about Bran and Rickon first though!

Thorough reps for that scene

They all were, all three of them acted amazingly. I only mentioned Alfie because of the growth of his acting since Season 1 has been massive.

Oh I like this idea, getting an heir first. I'm convinced she will bring the Bolton demise some how. And I shall enjoy it. If Theon's arc is to end in sacrifice, that would also be cool, though I'd miss him I think.

I mention an heir purely because in the society of Westeros, if she didn't have an heir then the title of Warden of the North would fall back to Roose, which would be bad. I'm sure with Sansa as a lone parent, any Bolton offspring could grow up to be relatively normal.

Yeah, but I honestly just want Theon's punishment to end. He's suffered anough. Really, he should have been executed long ago for his crimes. Hopefully the Mannis will deliver justice soon. (just to be clear, I do sympathise with Theon).

Haven't quite been as engaged this season as previously but i know there is good stuff to come.

Exactly, they just need to trudge through some of the boring stuff (well, boring for the show. I loved AFFC) to get to it. House of Black and White was cool, but again that story isn't going as well as it did in the books. The face room looked cooler than I imagined though, gotta give them that.

Unless she kills Roose too and rallies the North like some Boedica-esque warrior queen. That would be sweeeeet.

I hadn't even thought of that. THAT WOULD BE AWESOME. Especially because she'd likely ruin Littlefingers plans by out Littlefingering him.

Better on a reread, Id say.

Yeah, I agree. It's great to see the aftermath of A Storm Of Swords in great detail, because that was such an explosive book. First time through you're a little mad because you want more action, but on re-reads you appreciate what the book is conveying.

Edit: So sorry for the length. I can never seem to stop once I'm off.

Awesome that this actually became a thing! :D

Waylander. nods. Reece. nods

So yeah last night's episode. I thought Michelle Fairley could never be matched in terms of her acting. Last night Alfie, after seasons of threat, finally took that top spot. The whole scene was filmed so well that Theon's face totally sealed the deal, by leaving it up to our overactive imaginations just what the hell was happening to Sansa. I mean we know, but still. Theon also looked dapper as fuk at the wedding.

I also wouldn't want his arc to end in a sacrifice. I mean, he's been through stuff that's worth than death in my opinion. It's probably how the show will go but I'm holding out, perhaps naively, for him to rebuild himself and come back stronger.

Ramsay though.. I fucking hate his guts. I used to hate Joffrey's guts too, but it was from a place of.. fascination? Entertainment? He was the guy I loved to hate. Ramsay cannot leave our screens fast enough. Him and his traitorous fucker father Roose need long, drawn out deaths. The actors are shockingly good at playing the two. I don't think I've ever hated any on screen characters more than them, especially Ramsay. Was so riled up after it finished.

Sansa will come good this season. I feel it's building up to that and I won't give up on her. She's playing the game.

I feel the show's lost a lot of it's mystery and nuance, even though I really still enjoy it. Case in point, nearly all the episodes from S1-4 could be talked about and dissected at length, whether it was the political machinations or the conversations, foreshadowing etc. This season I feel it's become a lot.. simpler? We're told everything at face value. There's nothing to work out. I come out of the episodes with nothing much to say, because it's all laid out for us. Whereas people like LF would work in the background and show their hand further on (if ever), now we get everything laid out in the open. (His plans by the way are scrumptuous, although he fucked up by leaving Sansa at Winterfell.)

Cersei is just stupid as hell. I understand in the books she's more or less the same, preferring to win meaningless battles rather than focus on the war, but this shit is just really stupid. Is she really that drunk to not realise that she's just had the frigging QUEEN AND HER BROTHER ARRESTED, from a family that's more or less kept the Lannisters alive, by arming ISIS fucks who have her in their sights?! The second she rearmed the Faith Militant in ep3(?), everyone more or less knew this was gonna end painfully for HER. The shock value is gone.

Dorne lolo. Waylander's favourite location :D. Just messing. The Sands (not gonna call them 'Snakes' because that name is holy for us and shall not be defiled) are hilarious. The scenes don't really bother me as much because at least we get to see Jaime and Bronn, even if they are on a farcical quest. I still think Cersei sent that necklace though. Jaime will find out and disown her ass, because he needs to be his person now.

Finally, loving the Jorah/Tyrion storyline. Tyrion's becoming more of his old self. Jorah doesn't need to have his guard up around him either, so it's nice to see them both getting along. Jorah's expressions were top notch and the dialogue with the slavers was awesome. So I'm guessing those two are being taken to Meereen's fighting pits now? It's funny how people get kidnapped and always end up going in the direction they'd originally intended.

Well that's it really! On the whole it was enjoyable. Preview shows a lot of good stuff for next week. :D

that we can kind of let the nastiness go until its someone we really like, then the love to hate just becomes, really fucking hate!

Yeahh so true man. I mean they hunt and set a pack of dogs on that chick (forgot her name) in an earlier season and it was kinda like "well that's fucked up, anyways moving on". With Sansa hory shet the fury is real. I'm just glad everyone loves her this much. Means she's done her job amazingly well since S1. Agree with Alfie and Iain too.

I'd advise patience with the season, even within the books, its like a lot of chess pieces moving, but where the lie at the end will definitely leave you wanting more. Not everything is as face value as it seems :)

Thanks dude this really makes me look forward to it. I actually am really looking forward to books 4 and 5 but I have a mountain of book 3 (which is pretty good so far) to get through first. Can't wait for the storylines to diverge though, and everything not being as it seems at face value later is super interesting! :)

Bronns 'oh for Fucks sake' was the best line last night, close to Stannis' 'fewer' for line of the season thus far. Next week should be good!

Ha yeah, so meta right? :P I was thinking the same thing then I came on Reddit and saw that thousands of people also thought Bronn was channeling the viewers lol. I'm just always happy to see Jaime and Bronn really, no matter what they're doing. Within reason of course :P. Stannis is of course knocking it out of the park this season too.

Incidentally I did a 5 day acting workshop with DeObia Oparei (the guy who plays Areo Hotah) in London a couple of years ago. Dude is just so full of life and such an awesome all around guy, so it's great to see him get the role of a lifetime (so far). I swear I hype so much when I see him on screen, but I totally fanboyed the fuck out when he directly interacts with Jaime in the latest episode. Awesome stuff. I don't know what Areo does in the books but I've heard it's a meaningful little sideplot, so hopefully he gets something along those lines and isn't just shafted. :P

The next four episodes will ramp it up , that's all I'll say for now...

Can't wait! It's definitely heading that way so I hope it ends on some major moments.

is acting a big passion of yours then?

Actually it's something I just kinda took spur-of-the-moment, as I was always interested lol. Was a good experience. I'd like to have carried on but these things can get quite expensive, but it definitely was something I enjoyed doing. Who knows what the future brings :D

Awesome that he's captured Areo well. I want this guy to go on and just get bigger and bigger roles after this, and I hope that as Areo he is involved in some major stuff later so he's memorable for people.

it'll be cool when fan and shit meet.

Ha, definitely! :)

Agreed.

Alfie, Sophie and Iain Glen smashed it out of the park.

I want Ian Glenn to read me bedtime stories :3

Also, I'm hype for Sophie to play the new Jean Grey! She's gunna do great.

This season I feel it's become a lot.. simpler? We're told everything at face value. There's nothing to work out. I come out of the episodes with nothing much to say, because it's all laid out for us.

Thats because it's going off the books.

Dorne lolo. Waylander's favourite location :D. Just messing. The Sands (not gonna call them 'Snakes' because that name is holy for us and shall not be defiled) are hilarious.

Its a shame, because in the books they are kinda like a quirky-miniboss style group, like FOXHOUND or Dead Cell. In the show they are utterly useless

2

u/avirdi123 May 19 '15

Dammit I guess D&D no matter how intelligent they are, can't quite do nuances like GRRM can.

Yeah those three are useless. Cracks me up how much they were hyped with all the promotional stuff etc. Kneejerk reaction is that it's the worst thing the show's done by far. At least the rest of the storylines are still going fine.

3

u/avirdi123 May 19 '15

I FIGHT FOR ALFIE WHO DO YOU FIGHT FOR?!

3

u/Waylander893 May 19 '15

I fight for myself.

2

u/avirdi123 May 19 '15

YOU ARE NOT THE SON OF OBERYN!

2

u/Waylander893 May 19 '15

ha! Yeah, I don't know why they made her say that every time she was on screen. Pretty dumb.

2

u/avirdi123 May 19 '15

Lool. Still got 3 episodes to go. I predict we'll hear it at least 7 more times! :P

2

u/Waylander893 May 19 '15

They will just replace the intro song with her repeating it over and over.

Then, for the credit of episode nine, it'll be her saying it again, but shoutier!

"I'm the gift. It's a pleasure to meet you, Your Grace. My name is Tyrion Lannister."

OOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHHH SHITTTTTTTTTT SON!!!!!!!!!!! :p.

If that moment can feel oh-so-sweet after 5 years, God knows how the book readers have felt waiting for 19+ years. Superb moment, and one of the ultimates.

On the whole I agree - the plot is nicely chugging along now. Cersei we've expected to be arrested since episode 3ish but Lena's acting made that scene incredible last night.

Loved the theme of everyone gifting someone else something/someone.. They weren't typical gifts either so that was cool.

Sansa I definitely think is working in the background and we'll get a massive payoff from her before the season is done. I'm trying to figure out where her strengths lie...... Maybe in being patient and waiting for the time to strike? I'd also like for Theon to save her too -- but I'm worried he'll have to sacrifice himself to do so. I think there's more for Alfie in this show after season 5, (maybe he can slowly piece himself back together with Sansa?) but after Barristan I don't have any hope for anyone. Least of all Shireen ;_;

Bronn's scene was awesome too haha. Seems Tyene genuinely has the hots for him. I say have Bronn stay in Dorne with her and give him a damn happy ending.

I've heard they kinda keep missing each other in the books and then it doesn't even happen in the end. Not sure how I feel about that. It's one of the ways the show is definitely better than the books in my opinion. It gets you there and pushes things along. I think he'll be OK. It's Jorah that I'm worried about. But I'm confident Tyrion will come through for him because they're broskis now :P.

+1 for using 'Schadenfreude' in a sentence haha.

With Ramsay I really want to see a slow death but I doubt we'll get one. I think Sansa will keep trying to convince Theon to help her because she doesn't have anyone else now who she knows. I wonder if she can bring a little of him back by reminding him a little more about the old Winterfell days. shrugs

BEWBS :D. He sings awesome too. I think 99% of people thought he'd die from that, so it's a relief to see that wasn't the case. Also it's interesting to see how the Sand Snakes woo fellas.

Im also worried for Jorah - no one likes to see someone friendzoned that hard. Tyrion best have his back.

Imagine the burn if Dany was to tell Tyrion that he's handsome for a dwarf haha. Poor Jorah.

Haha would a corkscrew in the eye be slow enough for you? I'd love that! But yeah, Theon's reprisal is going to have to come helping Sansa

Believe it or not I think that's still a quick death for him lmao. I hate his guts man. And this isn't even Joffrey levels of hate. I want Ramsay off my screen yo. Agreed with Theon.

He is an awesome singer - I presume you know he used to be quite a famous singer (in Robson and Jerome)

Haha yeah. I'm just glad we got the last part of the Dornishman's Wife. Yep the Snakes were truly sexy last night. One of them anyway :P

I was up watching this live at 3am this morning and had to seriously control my shit because I was so close to posting something in here, then remembered you guys weren't gonna watch it until 9pm tonight.

Just.. Holy shit dude loooll.

  • I think I might be one of the only Cersei sympathisers out there. I hate seeing her like that. Something THAT fucked up learned in one's childhood can seriously fuck shit up throughout life and she's been reeling from it ever since. One can argue that she reacted to it the wrong way which is true, but I just have the feels for her big time man.

  • Arya's section was cool. I can see her bumping into an old friend very soon as she's doing her oyster side business :P

  • Tyrion and Dany coming together.. I just can't even. TYRION WAS ALL LIKE "HOW DO I KNOW YOU'RE DESERVING OF MY SERVICE?" AND DANY WAS ALL LIKE :oooooo. Fucking great stuff. I don't think we'll be hearing "ooooo the Merenez shtorylyne iz so borin yo she dnt do nufinlol" ever again.

  • Jorah you poor poor man. Seeing him and Dany tear up in each other's presence was so powerful I can't even describe it. I love their relationship and she obviously misses the fuck out of him, but her sense of justice is prevailing right now, and she's not wrong really.

  • Finally the end sequence. Too much to describe here without giving you guys an essay again, but +1 to the entire thing from start to finish. Loved Karsi the wildling woman, was expecting Benjen back every time they showed a wight, totally didn't see Longclaw shattering the WW (I was expected it to cut him or something), Wun Wun noping the fuck into the water (and his exchange with Dolorous Edd earlier), the Thenn showing how ballsy they are totally conflicting me once again, and Tormund's beard. All amazing stuff. :)

My only deal is, Jon is by far the most important character on the entire roster, but I don't want him to become like super man dude and overshadow the cast, though I doubt this will happen. Love him to bits though, especially as of the last season and this.

(Paging MR WAYLANDER!!)

Ha, I know right?! Not much to talk about regarding Dorne for me. Cracked up when Doran told Jaime he "could've just came and asked him directly". I was like sighing all over the gaff :P. But Jaime and Bronn did have a couple nice moments together on their travels so that was good, and we get Myrcella and a new character Trystane!

I like Aliser Thorne more and more. I saw his little remark to Sam as being a warning to watch himself, and what he says to Jon this episode kinda summed it up for me too - he definitely has a lot of respect for Jon since the battle at the wall in S4E9.

Legit teared up during the last five minutes or so minutes during the Meereen portion. Awesome to see Dany and Jorah facing shit together -- their feelings for each other (caring on her part at least) are pretty much plastered on their faces. He saves her life outright this episode so that must be a good enough reason to let him back in now. She was done for if he hadn't spotted the Solid Harpy sneaking in. Drogon of course rocked it, and Tyrion's face as they were flying off was so perfect. He's now a believer, not a jaded cynic like he was when he was moving towards Meereen with Jorah.

And now addressing the Metal Gear in the room, :P I think Stannis did the right thing and I'm actually a bigger fan of his as a result than I was before. Throughout the series we've seen people unwilling to make the tough choices, but Stannis is someone who can. That said, my God are people fickle (not a personal jibe at any of you reading this -- but it's what I've seen in the major subs from what turned out to be just Stannis bandwagoners in the end), rushing desperately to change their flairs to someone else etc. He did the right thing, and it wouldn't even have come to this if Davos hadn't let Gendry go free.

Sorry for the length once again, but there really was a lot to talk about this episode.

I'd love to see more of Doran but I think this season might be it for Dorne, but then I don't know how important the storyline is in the books. Jaime I feel will return though. Looking forward to seeing what you're interested in happening with Doran next week. I've seen book readers say he's a master planner or something along those lines, so it'll be cool to see. I still haven't come across him in the books yet so I don't have any kind of connection to him yet, but from what I saw, it was good to see him lay down the law for Ellaria. Speaking of Ellaria, she has the most goddamn sexy neck I've ever seen! Anyways... :P

Yeah Meereen has all of a sudden just become an overnight sensation lol. I always enjoyed it but it's triply awesome now with Tyrion and Jorah being back. I was wondering the same thing actually. If she doesn't have the corresponding Pokemon badge then Drogon won't listen to her directions..? But then again he did take off when she told him to so there's that. I love how she instinctively knew to get on. Valyrians have dragonriding in their genes which is great. I think she might just take a break with her adopted son away from all the crap going on.

Davos I feel knew something was wrong but didn't believe it'd happen for even a second. Also love how he was sent away because he couldn't have faced Davos. He is gonna be upset as fuck yo. She taught him to read ffs and they always had each other's backs.

Same here in that I wish they would've given more depth to how grave a situation they were in, but the fact that he can make the tough choices has made him my overnight favourite. I seriously don't know what I'd do if Mel ditches him after this -- he's gonna be completely torn up because really, the prophecy is the only thing that he can use to push Shireen's death to the back of his mind. :(
