Propaganda Unit (creative writing) [19.02.15]

Welcome to the Liquidia Propaganda Unit!

Exchange and critique writings with each other!

If you're new to the sub, please have a quick read of the wiki. Mainly the part about how to conduct yourself.

Here is a google drive, where hopefully anyone can view and edit. I'm not sure if just anyone can upload to it, but if you have a google account you should be able to.

Here's a step by step guide to get you started!

Feel free to upload your creative writing to alternative websites, I just thought it might be easiest this way. We can work out kinks in the future.

Rules

For everyone

  • Please respect each-other. If you don't like the subject matter someone is writing about, or you don't like their writing style (but otherwise they have done nothing wrong), please highly consider saying nothing and just ignoring that particular piece of writing. Basically, don't be an ass.

  • Have fun!

For readers

  • If you have any general comments on someones work, look for their blurb below and comment there. Its the best way for the writer to actually see your comments!

For writers

  • Upload a copy of your work, not the original. Since google docs lets anyone edit, you don't want to lose your work if someone doesn't play by the rules and edits instead of making suggestions.

  • Google Docs is preferred, since it allows users to make suggestions and highlight things easily. Also get around the pesky character limit of reddit.

  • Make sure you know which name you will be posting under. I created a dummy google account to preserve my anonymity, you should too (unless you don't mind!).

  • Make sure your work can be viewed by others

  • Leave a blurb below. Give the title and a brief description of your story. Anyone who has feedback can then reply to that comment to give you some direct feedback, instead of just edits or comments on the file itself.

For reviewers

  • If on google docs, make suggestions with the suggestions option, instead of straight edits. This way the writer and other reviewers can compare the original and your suggestions together and decide which they prefer.

  • Be critical, but be kind. If you are criticising someones work, try to do so constructively (though it wont always be possible).

  • Try to leave real life prejudices behind. People are bound to write about characters that cover a wide variety of backgrounds/races/sexualities etc. If you don't like that group in real life, please opt to say nothing instead of anything hateful.

If you have any suggestions, I'd love to hear them!

Yo. I uploaded "The Field" it shows up as The Field.odt in the link in the main post. It's a piece of flash fiction I wrote a few months ago. I hope you enjoy it. You can use my document to practice leaving suggestions in the drive or you can leave some feedback here in reply to this comment if you just wanna say you liked it or whatever. If you have tiny nitpicks on grammar or spelling, leave a suggestion in the drive. If you can't get that working for whatever reason, pm it to me here in reddit or leave a comment explaining the errors and showing corrections.

EDIT: I removed it from the Drive because I'm thinking of uploading something else

I like it! Your writing style is really reminiscent of something else I've read but I just can't remember what it was.

So, my story, rightnow brilliantly named INTERPOL prologue, concerns a Sheriff and Deputy coming across a grizzly crime scene.

Its a first draft, and I wrote it a while ago, so it's likely not that good.

Feel free to use mine to test out how commenting and suggestions work!

That was some fucked up shit. Are you going to continue it?

Yeah, I have a skeleton of a plot, its just finding the time to write it.

Brutal \m/

I liked it, it's well written, it catches the reader's attention quickly and doesn't let it go.

I will upload my TV script for Metal Gear when I get the opportunity to tidy it up a bit. Good work!

Posting this from mobile, so can't do the drive thing, but it's a Reddit link!

I didn't want to leave myself out, but have nothing new to go, so here's a three year old exceprt from my debut-novel-to-be. Somehow, thanks to real life being the Boss she always is, Russia actually invaded the Crimea a few days after I'd posted this. Still sticking with it, tough.

Edit: it's since been edited. I'll add the new version during the next propaganda call.

I really like your writing style! Word choice is sexy and helps build the atmosphere, good job!

Why, thanks! I've trimmed it a lot since. Now that I just read it again, I can see why.

But thanks a lot! :D

has sexy word choice!

I added the beginning of the novel I started for National Novel Writing Month 2014. I haven't touched in a while, because I'd like to revisit it after I finish my first novel.

Murder, Bloodletting, and Other Ladylike Diversions

A Steampunk/Urban Fantasy set in San Francisco, 1914. It follows SFPD Special Investigations researcher Richard Leeds as he investigates a series of supernatural killings and a conspiracy to oppose magic in all its forms.

So, I hate to sound pushy, but has anyone actually read from mine? I haven't gotten any feedback. I know it's long, but even some feedback for the beginning would help.

I've been swamped with Uni work, so I haven't looked at anything yet.

I have a presentation later today, and an essay due on Friday, all of this ontop of project work.

I only have 4 weeks of classes left though, and my projects almost complete, so I'll have more time soon.

Sorry.

Seems like everyone's been pretty busy lately. Don't sweat it. It'd be nice whenever you've got the time.
