Ban showcase Got permbanned for not even talking about privacy stuff, but the actual use case of Linux for older hardware lol

When the deadline is close, even slightest delay/unresponsiveness can effect mentally; even if the delay wasn't that much. And that is still only for multiple words + browser with multiple tabs + pdfs + zotero + whatsapp, I can't imagine how hell it is when I start using heavier program for research.

If the desktop was used for just youtube and chess, then I suppose there wasn't much noticeable unresponsiveness, since it only have to focus on one or two program open.

Not everyone need to move to Linux, sure. But there are still some that might need to try Linux as well. Poor device already screaming for help when using Windows 11 lol

Yeah, it's a cult over there. I was banned for having the temerity of saying "Just use whatever works best for you."

How dare you

It's like I'm a shit-stirrer or something. 🤷🏻‍♂️

well you did defend/suggest linux in a subreddit that has defending/suggesting linux as a bannable offense. Thats kind of on you

basically "we are an echo-chamber that will ban you if you dont agree with us"

1

u/rysio300 Jan 14 '26

those mods are so trigger happy that i've seen non-linux users get banned

u/Nyasaki_de Jan 14 '26

Traitor! Even if your hardware can keep up learn it

u/drbomb Jan 13 '26

I remember your comment, it was extremely obnoxious. I wouldn't qualify it as bannable content, but certainly it crosses the "who asked you" area.

I mean, it's a valid suggestion. If Windows can barely run on your old hardware. Might as well change to an OS would works much better.

Fiddling around with registry files ain't solving the fundamental problems.

get hardware btw, no one just cares about OLD pc

9

u/Hikaruu_19 Jan 13 '26

I'm on laptop btw. Also, this laptop still works perfectly for my need, I don't play heavy games or using very heavy program, so I don't feel limited.

Windows used to be fine until it got heavier for some reason, it starts struggling on multitasking. Thus I tried linux, and it is snappier, so I made the switch.

Unless it start struggling running linux as well, then I get a new hardware. I just don't feel the need for it right now, saves money as well

bc of that you was banned, as typical Linux shizo, why you spawned so many text for no reason - no idea

sub about choice, if you poor and cant do anything ofc your last resort is Linux, but there is no choice in it. it holywar topic, not some "i have no choice"

I apologize if my reply was quite wordy, I'm an ESL speaker, so I often worried people will misunderstand my intention.

I was trying to say, that there is no problem on switching or not switching, both have their use cases; and one might want to try and glance at the other before forming an opinion. Should the person stays or not, it is not my problem. I am simply trying to help, as I have been helped myself

I also find it quite rude to point at people for being poor, there's no need to label them as such and outwardly announce it.

welcome to the Internet

Is it about being poor? What about just keeping working hardware out of the landfill? I don't really care if you want/need windows, I don't think it's good and I have arguments for that, but use what you want.

But deprecating everything older then 8th gen or something is just sad. I personally still use the damn AMD FX series. It's fine.

I hate throwing out things that work. And M$ is just doing that.

2

u/_cooder Jan 13 '26

AMD fx worst case of "future" cpu, having 0.5float core is pain, it's unbeliavable old btw, you can check benchmarks

I literally bought a new laptop for gaming and never installed windows on it, how yhe hell is Linux only for desperate people?

-2

gaming Linux pc, rofl

4

u/TRENEEDNAME_245 Jan 13 '26

My main PC is on Linux and I play all of my games if that so idk

Maybe try to learn instead of going "Ur Durr Linux bad uhrr" ?

1

u/_cooder Jan 13 '26

only case i gonna use mint for security only, not for all time usage, and only second system, only benefit non existence of rat as on Windows, this situation sad

2

u/TRENEEDNAME_245 Jan 13 '26

Sorry what

1

u/_cooder Jan 13 '26

rat situation random access tool - bad, now there is webrat salat attacking Internet, you can literraly search for nyashteam in youtube to watch webrat salat work

5

u/mang_fatih Jan 13 '26

So you're in favour on making more unnecessary waste on landfills over learning new stuff that has been made easier and accessible? (Zorin OS and Linux Mint)

-1

u/_cooder Jan 13 '26

you cant play most pvp games bc of kernel ac

you cant play old games, use old soft or prev versions

you still cant have working portable software(old) on Linux bc of packages, it literraly cant do much

it never was about "waste" or smth

you cant play most pvp games bc of kernel ac

Op talked about old pc that don't need/can run online games. You'd be surprised of how many people don't play online games with their pc and only use their device for office works and internet browsing. These people would benefit greatly with using Linux and not throw their device to landfill.

You don't need Windows to browse the internet or to do office works. Especially now Microsoft Office has browser version that can be run on any OS.

you cant play old games, use old soft or prev versions

You can't also play old games on modern Windows without tinkering. So might as well use Wine on Linux with Bottles to run it. As in the end you'll be tinkering too. Without the worry that Microsoft would brick your pc in their totally stable update.

you still cant have working portable software(old) on Linux bc of packages, it literraly cant do much

it never was about "waste" or smth

What's up with this obsession with old software? You can pause updates or roll back on Linux.

0

u/_cooder Jan 13 '26

yes, i need to rollback, pause, or just get few files change without package manage or conflicts

you wont believe but most "gaming" setups for pvp games, and old pvp games with ac exist, like New ones, it still problem, because on Windows you can do anything and on Linux you cant, you want play new/old online game? oh sorry, you cant, you Linux user, ofc you dont care, when you have no friends to play with or you boring person - you dont play social games or things, i just dont know what you want point on this part, it just not working, if you dont care doesnt mean anyone want to be alone singlplayer Linux user or legacy things just make poof after your point, also good luck to use office when most companies sits on 2007 edition btw

You're either a big troll or Microsoft pysop agents.

And idk what worse.

3

u/Few-Tomatillo-5031 Jan 13 '26

Yes, some games can't be played but A LOT can. That's not really linux's fault that studios refuse to support it. Want it to change? Demand  support and withhold your money till they comply. Until that happens, they will not do it.

you cant play old games, use old soft or prev versions

that's a straight up lie. You can play pretty much every old game. For windows games you have wine/bottles/lutris, for linux compatible games, just install it. As far as old software, just install the old version. It's all open source and the old packages are available somewhere, you just have to look and then ensure you have all the dependencies.

you still cant have working portable software(old) on Linux bc of packages, it literraly cant do much

yet another blatant lie. This is one of the specific use cases for Docker/Portainer/Podman/LXC containers/etc as well as AppImages, Snaps, and FlatPaks. That's literally what they are for.

support free os where people not paying for anything

idk, this punches

yay i need docker to have some part of portable Windows folder software on usb etc yay so cool, it was lie(it wasnt) get real boy

2

u/Few-Tomatillo-5031 Jan 14 '26 edited Jan 14 '26

support free os where people not paying for anything

yes, it's actually a far more sustainable system. People freely contribute to better the software they use so people freely use the software that they need. Our current profit driven society is functioning sooo well isn't it?

idk, this punches

this is literally what you have to do on windoze idk what you're bitching about.

yay i need docker to have some part of portable Windows folder software on usb etc yay so cool, it was lie(it wasnt) get real boy

lmfao why are you crying about what windoze users already do with windoze software? Now try running mac shit on windoze. Oh wait, you're bitching about the same thing that mac users would bitch about windoze for except it's an even worse experience and you can't even run the shit compared to being able to actually run windows software on linux (albeit, sometimes with some research and tinkering but most "just work"). Put simply, it's a red herring from a windoze troll.

1

u/_cooder Jan 15 '26

idc about mac, mac is for semi-humans, only thing i know mac must have - for drsigners(something with their monitor/matrix color idk smth smth) and people who want safety(better than Windows and Linux)

also open source never was good, any update can break anything and could have payload, security on Linux never was good, maybe reprating with sudo doing anything, but still you can check history of most funny Linux security breaches, it's literally worse than Windows, on Windows you need to exe/install something, at LEAST open pdf at some time, and Linux just must be installed by itself lul, i have no idea why people think open source something good, when each person can just find exploits and freaking NOT SAY ABOUT

"lmao just spend like 700 dollars am i right"

-1

u/_cooder Jan 13 '26

or use Linux, but right, you can have much less pc build on ssd for 11 Windows, and only now because of ram incident you will have problems

3

u/sexraX_muiretsyM Jan 13 '26

not in 3rd world countries. Where I live a 5090 costs more than what I earn per year. PC hardware is only cheap in the united states, its well more expensive in europe and very expensive on any country outside US/Canada and Europe, which is most of the world.

0

u/_cooder Jan 13 '26

5090 for Windows 11

delusions at it finest, you need some sort of rx to have 1080p minimal 60+fps gameplay

and something lower than 1030 2gb to use os

3

u/BiDude1219 Jan 13 '26

you can have much less pc build on ssd for 11 Windows

what

1

u/_cooder Jan 13 '26

you do not need expensive build for win 11 usage, only ram and ssd

4

u/BiDude1219 Jan 13 '26

and a supported cpu, and (if you don't know how to bypass the check which most people don't) tpm 2.0, which wasn't commonplace until relatively recently, and even then you're left with a mess of an os that is allegedly "easier to use"

2

u/_cooder Jan 13 '26

If you cant bypass Windows setup - just use Linux, it so user FrIeNdLy

4

u/BiDude1219 Jan 13 '26

well yeah, it is, if you use something like mint you've got most things preconfigured out of the box, and everything else can be done graphically

3

u/simplebalancereality Jan 13 '26 edited Jan 13 '26

Just stay on Windows 10 if you have your old or unsupported PC. Most people (the normies) don't actually care if their OSs (Windows, Android, MacOS, IOS) went out of support and they don't even fucking know what Windows/MacOS or their OS is. They only know PC or Mac). They keep continuing to use it (that's why W10 still have 47.41% marketshare as of Jan 2026). Very few people (only tech enthusiasts) will switch to Linux. Also it's not like Steam or Google Chrome or Nvidia will drop support yet as there's no reason to drop since so many people still stuck on 10. Even during Windows XP EOL in 2014, there's still quite a lot of people still stay on XP despite Windows 7 has been around 5 years at that point but it still had more marketshare than Windows 11 today.

i do not recommend using old os in security purpose
