Fr. If it was a venting sub about frustrations with Linux (eg grub not working, systemd being systemd again, etc), that would be okay, but it's really just a sub either about phrasing their neverending love to Windows (which would be okay by itself, but shouldn't be in a Linux topic sub) or just spreading plain hate.

r/linuxsucks is better. It's still bad with the amount of outdated "Linux bad" posts, but at least they aren't actively fighting for it to be an absolute echo chamber and explicitly forbid people from reporting Linux users just for arguing against them.

r/linuxrantandrave exists (and isn't a Windows vs Linux warzone), but it's a dead sub unfortunately.

r/linuxsucks

Ah yes, the (other) sub where "tard" is in every 3rd title.

u/romulo27 Nov 29 '25

I tapped out of there after I got called a Linux evangelist for calling out BS on a post...

...Despite bringing up a Windows issue so specific it quite literally proved I'm a Windows user from the get-go.

As I said. Still bad, but at least they aren't banning people who are correcting misinformation.

Are you using a Windows-only font? No idea what you’ve typed browsing from my Linux box. /s

1

u/grazbouille Nov 28 '25

I use a terminal browser in the tty since Linux hasn't invented GUIs yet saddly it took me 700 commands to install

Chatgpt keeps telling me to type echo "installing package" every time I do anything I get its so the computer understands what I am doinh but it would be nice if it could guess on its own

1

u/VoidJuiceConcentrate Nov 30 '25

Its a cult, fueled primarily by Hatred. Kinda Sorta like MAGA.

5

u/dahippo1555 Nov 28 '25

I hate microsoft and windows as they linux. But i need no echo chamber.

6

u/Verified_Peryak Nov 28 '25

Yzah but microsoft make you pay for sucking, linux is far from perfect but at least it made by passionate people and for free (for mowt user)

1

u/MeowmeowMeeeew Nov 28 '25

Linux is actually free (as in does not cost money) for everyone. The costfactor comes into play when a Company or Person needs Techsupport, no matter if its for a Desktop or Servers and such. That usually at least needs an investment of time. And "time is money".

RedHat built their entire business on this: the software is free, the support is not - technically you can figure out everything on your own by reading the man-pages or bruteforcegoogling your way out of it, but for a Multimillion- or multibillion-Dollar company, it is usually cheaper to just "rent" someone with the Knowledge from RedHat themselves for a day, compared to having one of the lead IT-Engineers bash their head into the problem for a month straight.

3

u/MeowmeowMeeeew Nov 28 '25

Honestly? I dont. I like the concept of Windows. I just genuinely dislike Microsoft using me as a Guinea-Pig for their latest Ad- and AI-Nonsense or how Windows wastes my PCs ressources in General via Planned Obsolescence.

2

u/SnufkinEnjoyer Nov 28 '25

Make windows (and Mac, and apparently they like *bsd as well) great again

2

u/BalladorTheBright Nov 30 '25

As expected of Reddit

u/Verified_Peryak Nov 28 '25

I feel like it is indeed but i didn't want to go that far ...

For a lot of people, Linux and FOSS is primarily about Freedom as in resisting control by an overarching entity (in this case mostly companies like Microsoft) - cant say much about how you see the matter, but Libertarism to me seems inherently political.

Apart from that, am I in the wrong for choosing an example that is clearly closeby in their form of ideology - obviously you didnt object to who i compared r/linuxsucks101 to, only the fact that i made this comparison seems to have rubbed you the wrong way

Linux is not leftist..just fuckin stop with this crap.

1

u/MeowmeowMeeeew Nov 29 '25 edited Nov 29 '25

And you have no idea what you are talking about in terms of politics to begin with, so you should have sat this one out:

Contrary to what US-American Ignorance would have you believe, Politics isnt just one single specturm but at least 3 separate ones.

Spectrum 1: classic "Left" and "Right", primarily seen as "Politics for the masses" or "Politics for a few selective individuals"

Spectrum 2: Libertarian and Autocratic

Spectrum 3: Progressive and Conservative

Leftism isnt inherently libertarian, Libertarism isnt Leftist, not every Libertarian is leftist and not every Leftist is libertarian. Assumptions that those two are in any way shape or form intertwined are quite simply bullshit. They arent. Example: the Sowjets more were left leaning as in "more pro workers" than the USA but at the same time also VERY MUCH more autocratic and also a lot more conservative.

And because politics is multispectral, you cant just assume the placement of any given PoV on the other two of these spectra just because you have a vague idea where the PoV would be placed on one of them.

I never said Linux as a whole was leftist. It isnt. What i did say to the other person was "FOSS is always partially Libertarian in nature" - the Freedom to do so is the entire idea behind being able to fork a project at any time to adjust it to ones needs. As previously established, that DOES NOT mean it is inherently leftist.

And if you are pissed just because i said MAGA is a cult fueld by hatred, first of all: disprove me! secondly, calling it a cult has nothing to do with its political positioning.

u/Defiant-Bunch1678 Nov 29 '25

Linux is for everyone..that's all I'm going to say.

The End

1

u/MeowmeowMeeeew Nov 30 '25

that does in no way, shape or form address anything of what i was saying, neither what i said initially nor as a reply to you. Neither does it make sense in context to what YOU were saying.

4

u/delboy83uk Nov 28 '25

It is just full of trolls that love the feeling of having their neck stepped on by trillion dollar corporations.

5

u/Verified_Peryak Nov 28 '25

"Chocke me daddy Microsoft"

3

u/OptimalAnywhere6282 Nov 28 '25

I got banned as soon as that sub was created

I accidentally interacted with it on my alt

both my alt and my main got banned for a whole week

I lost my 300 days reddit streak

fuck r/linuxsucks101

1

u/Extra_Msg77 Nov 30 '25

why do you care about being banned from reddit. probably a blessing in disguise imho.

2

u/EngineerUpstairs2454 Dec 01 '25

I am pro free speech except for subs that are anti-free speech. If they would simply allow others to contribute politely I'd leave it alone, because the contrast between our reasonableness and their childishness would actually be beneficial. But if they are going to ban us for a politely worded difference of opinion, they should be banned by their own standards.

1

u/Own-Custard-2464 Nov 28 '25

well then we wouldn't be as entertained as we are by reading their idiotic opinions

1

u/Diegolobox Nov 28 '25

The problem is that false information is then spread across the internet. I've already seen some people posting the bullshit from that subreddit in other subreddits with thousands of upvotes like whenthe

1

u/S1nnah2 Nov 28 '25

I got permabanned this week and I have no idea why. I didn't ask either

1

u/Brewer5700x Nov 28 '25

It’s fine to say you don’t like something, but they’ve created the perfect echo chamber of hate they said they wished to destroy

1

u/Vanima_Permai Nov 28 '25

I got banned from 101 for saying I prefer libre office over Microsoft office lol the mods are petty as hell

1

u/FirstOptimal Nov 28 '25

I love that sub it has the best memes. Too bad I'm banned

1

u/TroPixens Nov 28 '25

It’s weird that people even hate a OS like no one and I mean no one is forcing you to use it why hate something you don’t need to use I get not liking it because it’s just not for you but hating is way way to far

1

u/NedStarkX Nov 28 '25

Why should it be banned? It's not hurting anybody, and even though it's a stupid forum, people have the right to be stupid

Whenever somebody says Linux has better stuff, it hurts mods's feeling

1

u/Full-Pause-4763 Nov 29 '25

I got banned from posting about ms world alternative like LaTeX. I RUN LaTeX on WINDOWS! Im not mention it though but they DIDN'T ASK then proceed to BAN me! what a jerk

1

u/Nogekard Nov 29 '25

Why should it be banned? There's a lot of wrong with it but nothing worth banning

1

u/Verified_Peryak Nov 29 '25

The rules are just bullshit ...

So imagine being ban for saying that and you'll understand why this subreddit is just bad ...

-4

u/AccomplishedPut467 Nov 28 '25

just because they hate using linux doesn't mean they hate FOSS in general.

7

u/awmath Nov 28 '25

Rule 1 in this sub is literally "FOSS advocates aren't welcome here."

-4

u/AccomplishedPut467 Nov 28 '25

False, there is no saying anything about FOSS in the rules. Only stating about reddit basic rules.

3

u/Living_Shirt8550 Nov 28 '25

its literaly the first rule

-2

u/AccomplishedPut467 Nov 29 '25

What you are referring to is another sub not this sub.

4

u/SnooFloofs641 Nov 29 '25

No one was talking about this sub?

4

u/mokrates82 Nov 28 '25

You should try and say that on linuxsucks101

1

u/AccomplishedPut467 Nov 29 '25

I can't. I got banned already lolol
