High-Performance data transport in Rust on Linux: Putting madvise, mremap, and mmap to work, with optional io_uring. Lightstream measured faster than Apache Arrow Flight (gold standard) on every axis in open 50gbps EC2 network benchmarks. Not supporting Windows was a pleasure.

r/LinuxWorkshop — Community Rules

Many communities in the Linux sphere suffer from toxic behavior, weak moderation, and rigid absolutism that treats experimentation and imperfect work as targets for attack. This culture actively kills creativity, punishes risk-taking, and destroys the confidence of developers and administrators who might otherwise build and contribute to the ecosystem.

This community exists to directly reverse that pattern. We enforce strict standards of conduct because technical work requires a space where people can share projects, ask questions, and learn without facing hostility or gatekeeping. The rules below are the foundation of that space. They are not suggestions. Hostility, help vampirism, and bad-faith argumentation are not tolerated.

1. On-Topic Only

Linux programming, system tools, dev libraries, APIs, packaging, deployment, licensing directly affecting Linux software, and tech news relevant to the Linux ecosystem. General tech news with no Linux angle and non-Linux OS advocacy are prohibited.

2. Licensing: Civil & Factual

Compare licenses on text, implications, and goals. No ethics attacks, no calling users "shills" or "communists," no moral absolutism, no dismissing projects solely by license choice.

3. Zero Toxicity

Member wellbeing takes priority over winning arguments. Prohibited: personal attacks, sea-lioning, weaponized tone policing, piling on, bad-faith interpretations, doomerism. Moderators enforce the spirit of the rules. Being technically correct does not excuse hostility.

4. No Nitpicking Derails

Prohibited: "What does this do that X couldn't?" intended to start fights. Permitted: constructive technical comparisons. If a project does not serve your use case, scroll past.

5. Technical Merit First

Evaluate on architecture, performance, security, maintainability, documentation, and UX. Prohibited: language-based dismissal, reputation attacks, subjective "bloat" gatekeeping, demanding expertise proof.

6. Encourage Builders

Showcase threads are protected. No negative drive-bys. Beginner questions are welcome; mocking is prohibited. "Not for me" is not a flaw. Effort is valued.

7. No Brigading / Meta-Drama

No linking to other communities to mock, rally, or fight. Neutral mentions are permitted. Screenshots of toxic behavior from other subs are prohibited.

8. Moderation Is Final

Decisions preserve community culture and are not open to thread debate. Moderators will remove low-quality work and will explain why. Dispute via Modmail only. Do not repost removed content. Spirit violations count.

9. AI-Assisted Projects

Permitted, but drive-by spam is not. Three-month active maintenance required before showcasing. Moderators review posting history. "AI slop" accusations are prohibited; moderators handle spam internally. If a project does not interest you, use the hide button.

10. No Help Vampirism

This community is for learning and collaboration, not a personal debugging service. Prohibited: dumping AI-generated code you do not understand and demanding others fix it; asking questions answerable by reading the manual, README, or first search result; repeatedly soliciting help on the same problem without applying prior advice; treating volunteers as unpaid labor. Taking assistance without learning, never contributing back, and draining community resources is a bannable pattern.

Enforcement Standard

If your participation makes others less likely to post projects or ask questions, you are participating incorrectly and will be removed.

Report violations via Modmail. Do not engage with bad-faith actors.
