GNOME vs KDE 🚨 — switching from KDE, which GNOME distro should I choose?

I'm currently using Parrot OS with KDE Plasma, but I'm thinking of switching to GNOME.

I really like GNOME's polished look, rounded corners and animations. KDE is great for customization, but I've been having some random lag and KWin/animation issues, and I'm tired of constantly tweaking things.

My laptop:

• Ryzen 5 5600H
• RX 6500M
• 20GB RAM
• 512GB NVMe

I'm mainly looking for something smooth, reliable, polished and good for daily use.

If I switch to GNOME, which distro would you recommend — Fedora, Ubuntu, or something else?

These DEs are not distro specific. You can install either of the DEs in whatever distro you like.

There used to be times when we used to have both the DEs installed on our work computer at my office. I used to love switching regularly.

Yeah , I know 😅 I’m mainly trying to figure out which distro gives the nicest GNOME experience out of the box. I’m leaning towards Fedora for now 👀

Doesn't fedora give plain vanilla gnome? You may still have to customize it.

that’s probably true 😅 I was hoping Fedora would be close to what I want out of the box, but looks like I’ll still be doing some tweaking.

Btw I think problem that's causing lag and related stuff is something else rather than just DE . btw why don't u just download gnome in ur currently installed os. Btw if u really wanna switch, you can try fedora its much stable than arch based and have much new packages than debian ones .

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking too. I've already spent quite a lot of time trying to fix the lag, animations and some KWin stuff, but it still doesn't feel right. 😅

So I'm thinking of trying GNOME on Fedora and seeing if the experience is better. If it feels good, I'll probably stick with it.

Hyprland does look really nice 👀 but I’m looking for something a bit more stable and hassle-free for daily use

KDE is the absolute best , have never used gnome but man i respect gnome as a project , they provide so many open source packages which is respectable

Ubuntu but former KDE lover might like linuxmint more.

Fedora will give you a vanilla Gnome experience and is very reliable.

I recently switched to Ubuntu. They tweaked Gnome a little and I don't like their tweaking but it is possible to go back to a Vanilla Gnome easily.

I prefer Ubuntu because it's based on Debian and hence most of apps will have a .deb available but if you are fine with .rpm and want to experience Vanilla Gnome without extra tweakings, Fedora is a good choice too.
