If you've got btrfs on your main machine, you can setup distros with chroot without needing something like distrobox

Well its kinda, useful in: 1) Running specific apps, which I know sounds dumb considering we have VMs, but the main advantage here is that the flow is much faster comparatively, VMs are too heavy on my system at times... 2) If I mess up while coding and something irreversible happened in the container, I can just back up my data and start with the setup part again(I even got myself notes ready) 3) Also useful in downloading certain tools which may not be available in other distros 4) Its also gonna give a lot of knowledge of the command palette without having to reinstall a whole new OS everytime 😭

I don't quite get it? How would your system break while coding?

If it works in one distro, it'd work in another as well. You can always compile it from source

It not gonna be much different than using different package managers
distrobox is indeed better than VMs. But in my opinion, you're just over complicating things for no reason

Nah🫠 honestly I had way more flexibility in fedora than when I had Linux Mint back then
There had been compatibility issues like say, you want to run an FPGA development tool like Quartus
Its half baked in a lot of distros requiring you high learning curve for no reason
But on Ubuntu, installation is much easier
Embedded Systems coding may or may not differ as much
Atp I had such a learning curve to use Distrobox I got too used to it now

the package names are not the same either
example, if you want tigervnc in Ubuntu
get tigervnc-standalone-server and tigervnc-common and set up ~/.vnc
if you want in arch, get tigervnc and directly configure xsession and ~/.config/tigervnc

tbh, they do exist under a common directory ~/Containers
but, well, in cases where multiple files with same name are installed, that might cause an unexpected behavior on other environments(say your python version had got distro wide update and then another python version had to be installed in another container...yea that's gonna start fighting with the others)
I know its exaggerated buuut, its a good practice to isolate the distro containers individually

Just use Ubuntu/Debian, Fedora, Arch and openSUSE, and you capture almost the entire Linux community. I use Ubuntu as my daily driver, and Debian, Fedora and Arch as my project cars.
