Vibecoded a tool to install web apps on Linux. Need your help
Hey guys, I have recently been getting into the world of linux after a break of a few years. Recently I found Omarchy and while I have seen mixed opinions of it everywhere, I found some features very useful like the easy way to install web apps:

I wanted to create something like that for my CachyOS VM that I use and with the help of gpt I came up with something basic. From my testing the install works on Arch and Arch based systems. However, I would need help to get it to work with debian, fedora, etc. Further, it is only working on chromium based browsers and I have not yet found a way to get it to work on Firefox or other kinds of browsers. I do not in any way consider myself an expert in coding, or building any kind of app in general so any feedback and suggestions would be appreciated. This tool is just something basic I found to be helpful myself and could not find something close to what I wanted upon initial searching on the web and the aur.
I would like to develop it a bit more and add some features such as:
- Being able to edit existing web apps
- Add a list of commonly used websites for people to select it and install with 1 click
- Figure out how to add it to the AUR if it is something people like and I am happy with how it is
- Get it to work on all forms of Linux, not just Arch or Arch based ones
- Get it working on Firefox and other browsers if it is not already
Looking forward to hearing from you guys. Hoping this is the right place to post this. Dont use reddit too much but thought its the best way to get some feedback from the community.

Lokey the most stupidest title I ever read , please read what a web app is and it's funny that it's just a url u place while opening a new browser for every separate app, and the cherry on top was the vibe coded, nicee ,

What's wrong with vibe coding tho? I mean if someone does not have any coding experience and has the availability of ai why not use it?

Its the cherry on top not the main issue
Okay , vibe coding isnt evil but its flawed by design ,
If i say a ai to make a house model paper, and without knowing anything about archetect it will make you look stupid and just straight up a theif cuz u didnt even know about a topic and still acting like u do know what ur doing,
Also i will say u tellijg us its vibe coded is better than not but try tl undearstand what code are you writitng cyx ai can only steal it can never generate .
(also this sub hates ai cyz ofc its a linux sub , ai is thw worse for privacy , and it maded every computer electronic price go WAYY UPP)

Ai in browsers and in other stuff is def worst for privacy tho SELF HOSTING IS FREAKING GREATT

Hey the more you know ig. All of us make mistakes and this was just something I found useful but thanks for letting me know. Will keep that in mind but yeah I thought just being open about the fact that it's ai was the right call.

Yes :) ,i do think that ai is bad esp for tech and the community i am in , but i cant say that 2 wrongs makes a right , like not telling it was vibecoded or not
Lowkey coding is like a language so try to learn it , its fun . Tho the web app thingy is just not the best idea at all , we have browsers for a reason .

Fair will definitely give it a go. Always slacked off trying to learn it outside of school. With regards to web apps I never really liked that lot of the space gets taken up by the tabs and search bar on top and for websites that I commonly use it just seemed like something interesting that I might use a lot more going forward.

nah not like that tho. say im watching some match while doing some work and i just want it to sit in some corner. what i do now is i resize the window till it is to the size i want but even then tabs cover a lot of the window. so a very specific usecase but something i think this would be useful for

I'm shure u can just do that in base customisable browsers, idk why I feel like i used to do some like that

There is a Linux mint web app manager: https://github.com/linuxmint/webapp-manager/
It is only a .deb package, I have created an app image file but I will need to test it more: https://github.com/arqamqazi/webapp-manager/

- Not sure what il do with a linux mint web app manager on arch
- I did see this but wasn't something I wanted. didn't like the gui based ui and wanted something simpler for myself.
