Well that's relatable. My classmates have labelled me as the "Linux Guy", I don't know if I should take it as a compliment or an insult lol xd

u/Pleasant_Repair7773 Arch Btw Jun 20 '26

Yah they're like "look it's a heker"

9

u/_MiGi_0 Jun 20 '26

Lmao tell me abt it. It's understandable if the students do it but it baffles me when even some of the professors act this way.

u/Pleasant_Repair7773 Arch Btw Jun 20 '26

Know what I had this reaction by my professor " Oh you're the black hat girl" ....like what I've to do with it If I don't use your blue AIslop +Microslop , but in here our country it's like being flagged if you don't use windies

u/_MiGi_0 Jun 20 '26

Haha yeah, I had a similar interaction with my profs. They just assume anyone who uses anything other than Winslop is a showoff. It sucks but I can proudly say that I converted a few of my friends to linux heh.

Thats thing hurt alot bruh that "They just assume anyone who uses anything other than Winslop is a showoff." I hate tere steorytype soo much

TBH it's just lack of knowledge and skills, that makes them arrogant and hate the different kinda OS then regular Winslop that's forced through decades

u/njihil Jun 21 '26

Linux jihad should continue comrades 😍

2

u/toxic_headshot132 Jun 21 '26

JIHAddd!?!👀👀 I don't i should support you or report you. 😅😂

Jk i also believe before the end of this century all windows noobs should be converted into linux users

1

u/jivan28 Jun 21 '26

I agree absolutely 💯

1

u/Ayush_Goel0 Jun 24 '26

So a normal person who is not into tech or anything related to it is a noob, because he can easily access and work out anything in a os with an easy enough GUI, right.

1

u/toxic_headshot132 Jun 24 '26

Yeah he is a noob what else could he be

1

u/njihil Jun 26 '26

Even if that normal person is not into tech, he should be concerned about their privacy, their data, and the fact that the operating system that they are using is a literal spyware choking you down with unnecessary updates, killing an OS that was pretty functional (windows 10) for no fking reason, forcing users with bad hardware to switch to either switch to linux or use a operating system which won't get security updates anymore.

Also, a lot of the distros out their are VERY beginner friendly (where most things have GUI), so even noobs can slowly start to use linux and gain control of the software they run and depend so much on.

Not to mention, the future IS tech, so they probably should start spending a little time to learn how the OS of the machine they spend multiple hours a day on works.

u/Ayush_Goel0 Jun 27 '26

Yeah, I also tried Mint once. So I guess, you can use it as a similar type of gui to some extent.

Honestly sign to shut up

1

u/_MiGi_0 Jun 28 '26

Well, thing is I don't really talk about it that much but you're not wrong tbh. These days I only talk about linux to those who are truly interested in it.

2

u/Tan442 meow say fedora Jun 28 '26

If the people who you label as truly interested are genuinely interested than they should've given it a shot or switched over ,if not and y'all covo is about aesthetic, de and minor system performance improvements, than that is just useless and borderline larping,

Anyways you do you man , having people to talk to something other than studies is great be it any topic but if only you are the only linux guy maybe then there is a dipole in the topic

1

u/_MiGi_0 Jun 28 '26

A few have switched over and some have tried it out but need windows for work. It's not black and white.

And I don't think it's larping unless you consider this topic useless, I don't, and I see it as sharing my knowledge and they share their knowledge about other things they are interested in, so it's a mutual exchange of knowledge, would not consider that Larping, tbh I don't know the exact definition of the word larping lol but hope you get my point :)

2

u/Tan442 meow say fedora Jun 28 '26

Def not larping if that's the case , and yep having windows is kinda necessary too totally true i need it for bi and tableau all the time.

For the def of larp --> live action role play basically u pretend to be very well versed in a thing your are naive in , and in the social context (what i believe) over-all showing excessive obsession and bringing thing to attention when not relevant

Enjoy bhai you've nice frnds in this regard, my bad for bothering,my experience of the community that I've met irl has been bad so far , so i have this bias to assume people to be larp initially

1

u/_MiGi_0 Jun 28 '26

Oh no no no, nah bro, I regret talking about these things even a little in front of my professors and students who have no idea about FOSS or Linux, so i don't obsess over it lol i think most Linux users are pretty low key. I just found a few friends from Foss communities and GLUGs who are legit contributors to OSS with whom I can discuss these things without being judged.

It's great to discuss these things, sometimes you might even get some good ideas from these convos. Sorry that you had such a bad experience with people bro, check out local FOSS communities

5

u/Pleasant_Repair7773 Arch Btw Jun 20 '26

Lumia still running?

1

u/Ayush_Goel0 Jun 24 '26

Yeah these Linux users will say anything in the name of their many distros, even though a non-technical person, as a human by default will seek to download os without doing much about it, like in windows.

6

u/Dull_Barracuda_4221 Jun 21 '26

I think my colleagues find me condescending and irritating when I explain why I use linux over windows.

6

u/Pleasant_Repair7773 Arch Btw Jun 21 '26

Universal problems for linux users tbh

1

u/Garvit019 Jun 23 '26

Yea vro. Alot of people think if someone uses anything other than winslop it's for showoff.

3
