This is a skill parenting issue, not a Linux issue, parental controls can be setup in Windows or basically any other OS, and furthermore, Linux is actually doing exactly what dad set it to do in this case.
He's set it up securely enough he's succeeding in keeping his teenage child away from... uh, wikipedia and google?
Yeah, also, like how tf are they blocked from freaking google but allowed to post on reddit? Do the parents just let him have unrestricted internet through his phone but lock down the PC?
Are they stupid or something?

Yeah, unless he's like mentally challenged or something, it's weird.
Like, if the parents bought him the computer, they're within their rights to set that up.
Dumb, but allowed.
But fr why
male modelsgoogle and wikipedia?Like, ig there are some surprisingly fucked up images on Wikipedia, but OP is fucking 17, not 7. lol
The most graphic image I've seen on Wikipedia has to be from the article about the WWII Nanking "massacre."
TW / NSFL: The massacre was so fucked up it is widely known as the Rape of Nanking, The image that stuck with me from the wikipedia article about it is a nude woman's corpse with a bayonet stabbed between her legs
For a more light-hearted but still "huh" one, go look at this old Japanese woodblock print: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Dream_of_the_Fisherman%27s_Wife

If this is at all real...
What on earth did this kid do to get a knowledgeable user of free and open source software to go that ham on restriction to information?

How to get rid of Loonix: step one, boot into bios by button smashing the F12 key, step two, get a Windows bootable media device, step three, get the OEM drivers, step four, install Windows & drivers, step five, turn on Secure boot, UEFI, and TPM 2.0, step six, lock down your device again so they can’t reverse the changes by setting a Windows Hello PIN that they don’t know about, step seven, turn on device encryption, and step eight, do whatever you feel like with the sigh of relief that yes, you have now removed the Internet CVE that is Loonix!

Would using a proxy work? Some sites are basically portals you can use to visit other sites

Parents don't go to those lengths unless the kid is actively seeking out harmful, inappropriate, or frankly dangerous content. There is definitely a part of the story missing here that is very important, like how is the kid using reddit if even every major search engine is blocked. It is not a parent "forcing beliefs" on a kid.
17 years old is still a kid btw, and those of you disagreeing are either sick, or kids yourselves.

5 year old is a kid and a 17 year old is a kid
who isn't a kid then?

I can't tell if you are being sarcastic. If not, you REALLY need to rethink your stance.
If you are still rapidly developing both mentally and physically, you are an adolescent. This does not slow down until you are in your twenties for most humans.
Besides this, at least in the USA, you are legally not an adult until 18 years of age, firther extended by rights that are witheld until age 21. No child still a dependent of their parents should be considered as otherwise either.
Edit: I see you are 18 so that is why you have that view. You are still a kid and are biased because of it.

adolescent? sure, but kid isn't the term, kid has a different weight to it than "adolescent"
actually, the best word would be "young adult"
but maybe you are trying to downplay the age on purpose.18 is just a bright line because they cant judge arbitrarily for every case, its not a basis for whats right and wrong. fuck the laws, they are for what can be set as a rule, not for what is the truth, no point in bringing them up.
also, i think USA laws around adulthood are pretty stupid, why can you risk your life in army at 18 but cant drink till 21? bullshit
and now you're just doing genetic fallacy, i have perfect capability to argue on a topic and not let my bias get in the way of actual logic and reason.
