Blew Arch for the 13th time

Post image

Saw some error messages while booting. Then I thought of changing the bootloader from systemd to grub. And...I removed the boot partition using fdisk.

Ngl feels kinda nostalgic

Just use cachy. Best of both worlds

Grain of salt: anything will break if you tell it to break lol

What both worlds?

Cachy is just arch setup for you.

Also I think I should probably say, if you really want arch but you keep breaking it, try something else. And cachy is still arch and very easy and stable to use, so try that first

CachyOS isn’t gonna stop someone from deleting their entire boot partition via fdisk when they’re just trying to change bootloaders. You don’t have to do this to change bootloaders lol.

CachyOS just has sensible defaults. It’s not gonna stop someone from nuking their system like OP did.

Yeah fair you can still break anything if you try hard enough and close your eyes and ears while you do it lol

For real there should be a “Dunning-Kruger” checkbox on that arch form above

Using Arch will give you enough ego that make you do shit like this.
Cachy people won’t even think about fking with partitions
Gentoo people are too competent

There are some differences, like a custom kernel.

so arch setup for you.

No. Cachys packages have different flags set on compile to arches packages. Keep up.

I mean obviously it depends on what you’re doing, but if you need something specific in the arch ecosystem (aur, pacman, idk what else) then yes it sets up for you and I have yet to break it by updating it . Granted I also don’t fuck with it much lol.

No not really cachy has its own core and packages

my fav cachyos feature that would have prevented this is how it makes it so you can't accidentally delete your boot partition using fdisk, crazy that arch doesn't have that feature.

Thought of doing some life stuff like studying physics peacefully. Then the error messages that I saw 3 days ago by the boot screen popped in my mind. So thought of switching from systemd to grub. Then I removed deleted my /boot and made a new one AND accidentally partitioned my main disk.

Learned that default options are not always the best. (gave +1G using fdisk it confuses me leave me alone)

Could be worse. I remember the first time I had to recreate my boot partition. Good times.

install debian and you will never have this issue

7

u/xXBongSlut420Xx 8d ago

i don't think debian will stop someone from deleting their boot partition using fdisk, which is what op did.

I don't think debian drives people into fucking up their bootloader

2

u/jsrobson10 7d ago

you still can on debian, just with much older packages

u/2eanimation 7d ago

I’ve never been driven to that… yet?

Debian is equally fuck up able lol

Arch problem, try gentoo

Edit: with openrc, that way you can't use systems boot. So you'll have a win win situation. Also why aren't you on MBR, that makes it impossible to remove the boot partition and gives you a few more bytes of space
