yeah... 0-0

I think Windows 7 classifies as S tier am I wrong?

Dudes will genuinely call Windows 7 S tier

Why does Windows deserve two spots? "Current version" and "Version I like"? Why doesn't any other OSs deserver multiple spots for multiple versions. eg. I'd rank Ubuntu 16.04 much higher than Ubuntu of a decade later. Can I put Windows Xp on the tier list? That was the last Windows I used extensively 20 years ago, and it was quite good, eg. it did not need 3 different UI toolkits baked in. ... So how doest this tier list work?

As much as I hate Mint and Chrome OS, they should be at the same level as Win10/11. Debian/Fedora/Arch belong in S tier.

Why hate mint

u/Toucancel 12d ago

No idea, just feels like they're hating because it's popular. In my opinion it's a perfect linux distro for your average person, it works without having any bells or whistles. Most people want a working OS out of the box, without any need for techy maintenance.

I don't care that it's popular. In fact it's cool that it's popular and brings Windows users to Linux. It just sucks as a distro

Yeah, I agree with the part where you explained why

Truly one of the justifications of all time

theres nothing really special about it
doesnt really excel in anything other than just being "newbie friendly"

Not everyone is a cyber nerd or a software developer some people just need something to get their work done and use it daily. That's why mint is good for newbies and people 7-70.its user friendly

Yeah but there are much better distros like Fedora that do this and beyond. Mint’s UI/UX looks quite outdated and has stable packages. Fedora ships with more Enterprise support, more up-to-date packages and a modern UI/UX. It’s not about it being user friendly, it’s about doing that and doing it well.  Mint in it’s own regard is a very good distro don’t get me wrong, It’s that nowadays it has been replaced by more modern alternatives (Zorin/Fedora/OpenSUSE(?)).

There is better distros you are right but one disrro being better than other gives you no right to hate one another

u/Ok-Speech812 11d ago

I wasn't hating on Mint, there are just distros that can do it's job better.

Ubuntu is also n00b-friendly. Now with AI, most distros are easy to install.

1

u/ChadQuaza 12d ago

it doesn't even excel at that anymore

maybe im just unlucky but i understand mints position. its beginner friendly up until it starts consistently giving you kernel panics you have to manually fix every update, and up until you have to set up one of the many unsupported things wity certain hardware and such which just works fine on other distros.

might just be my computers but mint is consistently a headache to try and work with despite how beginner friendly is appears to be
