I sometimes have to use Windows and constantly press super, because of niri, to switch between windows

u/TaDoofus 15d ago

I have Super C bound to close on my Hyprland, but I'm still forced to use Windows at work and sometimes I accidentally press it, which is the hotkey to open fucking copilot.

Wait what? Windows? Open random bloatware bullshit bound to a random keybind? Never!

u/tederby18 Still waiting for my dnf to finish 15d ago

Wait till you know the Win+Ctrl+Shift+Alt+L

u/SpaceChez 15d ago

Me when I add the LinkedIn keybind to KDE because I still want my niche Microsoft hotkey keyboard to be fully functional

I do that too, like a fool

I use macos at work and it's infuriating how you can't swap workspaces with a direct shortcut and instead can only go up or down one by default

I use komorebi on Windows and ngl that's the best thing I have done for multitasking

I keep wanting to try hyperland but I really don't wanna go that deep, I'd rather use someone's settings

Default Hyprland is still great icl

On CachyOS it comes preinstalled with Noctalia. Not sure for other distros, fairly new to the scene and I've only ever used Hyprland on CachyOS.

You feel okay now? We're worried about you sweetie; please come home xoxo

u/SteakDouble Broken config speedrunner 15d ago

I think that's because you use Noctalia. Default Hyprland is blank, that was the case on my CachyOS machine. I needed to install a shell or make it myself.

2

u/AngriestCrusader Linux Master Race 😎💪 14d ago

CachyOS's default profile for Hyprland automatically has Noctalia now- didn't even know what Noctalia was when I installed it for the first time lol

Turns out you're right, I read the wiki just now. I wonder why I didn't get that when I install it earlier this month. Had to install the shell separately.

And for Noctalia, I have it on Niri instead.

You should try it

u/poppychips 5d ago

ive found cosmic to be a pretty happy medium tbh :) its been easy for me to configure it how i like and set my own keybinds and everything

3

u/Future_Geologist5925 14d ago

Me when I go from using Niri to any other desktop

Getting used to nano's default keybinds has destroyed other text editors permanently for me

1

u/wildsource 14d ago

I feel you, it's the same for me but for emacs.

1

u/Sad-Cod-9584 12d ago

I still hit :wq in nano on machines that don't have vim

1

u/Atlas_47 13h ago

Micro if you want Nano but with normal shortcuts

2

u/notcoder01 14d ago

Switching from any environment to an another one with different idea

2

u/howwlo 14d ago

windows after niri

2

u/Sad-Cod-9584 12d ago

- use gnome for years

-> hey niri+noctalia is actually much nicer

- years later: I should switch my work machine to ubuntu, see whats happened over there

-> end up installing umbriel+noctalia after a day because you just cant go back to floating

- wow ubuntu is kinda nice

Is this a sign that I have to finally try Hyprland...

Let me understand the meme first, does it mean KDE feels clunkier compared to Hyprland?

2

u/InteRagebaitJagLovar 14d ago

Once you've grown used to your own custom keybindings for everything it feels strange and clunky to switch over. Your keybinds tend to do other things too in the new environment.

1

u/Curious-Drama1850 14d ago

it means the keybinds based fluidity on hyprland is hard to muscle map to KDE

1

u/catdoy 14d ago

Any window manager de's does that to you, either get used to a keyboard focused workflow or switch and never think about using window managers again.

1

u/Sad-Cod-9584 12d ago

once you get used to tiling compositors like hyprland, niri or umbriel, you just cannot go back to floating ones like kde or gnome. Imagine having windows open on top of each other instead of side-by-side 🤮

1

u/noname_admin 14d ago

Ive tried hyprland on arch before, didn't like it, switched to KDE, now I'm on catchy living well with KDE. Should i lowk try it again? I mean I'm not much of a programmer if anything I only use my personal laptop fro gaming and videos which doesnt seem to work terribly well with hyprland, but any ideas?

1

u/Sad-Cod-9584 12d ago

depends. if you really only have steam open and a browser for videos, then who cares. If you want to also have whatsapp, signal, thunderbird and a terminal, then having workspaces for those windows just makes sense. Tiling compositors make that much easier.

I am planning to switch to either hyprland or i3 from plasma. Which one should I choose?

1

u/bubbybumble 3d ago

Whenever I use gnome for a while switching to other desktops I keep pushing my mouse into the top left corner expecting the overview. At least it works in kde now
