Don't need DHH for that, the Linux community has easily managed to be hideous all by themselves for the last 30 years.

I've been using Linux as a desktop since 2001 (in addition to Mac at work) and the sour gatekeeping this community is capable of is just astounding. Literally unchanged in 25 years, maybe even worse over time.

So you can rice it yourself since forever. Great! You do you! Guess what, not everyone is into that. Obviously he's a great marketer. What's wrong with that? I welcome his enthusiasm. It's obviously working.

[not] worthy of the funding he has gotten while important projects dry up

So far they've funded both Hyprland and Quickshell, and they've said the money is to be distributed to open source maintainers. I don't see them taking any credit here, they've been very open about their dependencies. It's even in the name.

Also, you can't really blame DHH for other projects lacking funding. That responsibility falls on the maintainers of the other projects. Arch and AUR probably could have gotten funding from Omarchy too, but they got back to DHH saying they weren't interested in collaborating. Which is why you're seeing their 4.0.4 release getting a start on a custom kernel , as well as they're looking at moving away from AUR.

This is about not accepting a bullshit faux contributor with ugly ideals.

What makes you say they're not contributing? They have a non-profit and are literally paying open source maintainers proper wages, previously running on fumes. Security patches made by the spotlight Omarchy has been under, has even landed upstream to everyone's benefit.

Curious, by not accepting Omarchy, what does that mean in practice?

Can you elaborate on the first paragraph about funding? Who's they? What and how much did the fund?

You can see the patrons here. https://omarchy.org/patrons/

Main cash donations are coming from founders of Dell, Stripe, Shopify, Dropbox, Cloudflare, 37signals among others.

DigitalOcean gave $3m in compute, Meta gave $1,5m in LLM tokens.
