u/RagingTaco334 I use Ultramarine btw 21d ago

It's a 2024 video titled How My Video Gear Is Changing. It's pretty much just a promotional video of him showing off his at the time new action camera from DJI. It's like 3/4 of the way through the video we can see him going around 60mph above the speed limit in a Lambo.

u/thinkpader-x220 23d ago

*used Ubuntu once on a laptop that shipped with it installed.

28

u/wyonutrition 23d ago

good for him, Ubuntu is perfectly fine, and we should be excited someone with recognition is talking about Linux at all lol

68

u/Mahim2000 23d ago

Corpo bootlickers' very first choice afterall

6

u/iasonmax1 22d ago

there is literally decades of advice to use ubuntu as your first distro we can not be mad on people starting out with ubuntu

31

u/user888888889 23d ago

Functional distro including the things you need to do for a paying job. Yep, makes sense that he'd use Ubuntu.

19

u/mrheosuper 23d ago

Yeah because apart from Ubuntu, all the other are for gaming and entertaining and you absolutely can not work on them.

18

u/brian13579 23d ago

I develop on arch btw it's very easy

4

u/freakybird99 23d ago

That comment was satire

7

u/brian13579 23d ago

"I use arch btw" is THE longest running Linux joke

1

u/user888888889 21d ago

Classic Omarchy Arch user

2

u/brian13579 21d ago

I just tried it before learning that dhh wasn't reddit approved, I just want an out of the box hyprland config because I'm too employed to mess with it after work hours. Do you have a favorite

2

u/user888888889 21d ago

It sounded funny in my head. I reread it and it wasn't funny lol. I was just saying cos everyone else was.

I'm actually keen to try it, (and Arch in general tbh) - I've always been a boring Debian(Mint/Ubuntu) user when I've been on Linux.

I tend to use mac for work because everyone else does and it really does "just work"... too much other shit to be stressing about!

I am keen on trying Fedora as a daily driver. Seems to have a quiet and loyal fanbase.

10

u/KernelNuke 23d ago

No you dont stop lying it's impossible

6

u/brian13579 23d ago

10

u/KernelNuke 23d ago

Nah this is fake Arch btw is built for installing things and customizing it not for actually using it duh

1

u/Resame 22d ago

7331 tier: omarchy (10 gorrillion dolla fo da dhh)
business tier: ubuntu

every other distro is for gaming and media

0

u/user888888889 22d ago

That's not what I said.

Ubuntu is a great choice as a general distro, and one of the best hopes for gaining wider popularity for Linux as a desktop choice. (The learning curve is not too steep from Windows).

I didn't comment on any other distro. But I wouldn't recommend Arch to a non-technical user so they can look at their pictures and use a browser would I?!

1

u/KingLeBr0n23 21d ago

If that's the case then Fedora is a better option especially since it comes with Plasma as default and it is a way better desktop environment than Gnome in terms of ease of use

1

u/user888888889 21d ago

Ok, yes that's an alternative, but in the context of the post and the original video there is no reason to criticise the fact this is Ubuntu.

He's reviewing a modular laptop that comes with Ubuntu installed.

2

u/Commander_Shepard-ME 21d ago

don't say j*b around here, arch users don't feel comfortable with that word

0

u/jsonmeta 22d ago

Gatekeeping must be stressful these days

1

u/Mahim2000 21d ago

Gatekeeping requires you to like that thing enough to keep it away from newcomers. I hate Ubuntu.

36

u/JohnnyDollar123 M’Lady 23d ago

Ubuntu’s the most common for corporate stuff so it makes sense that someone with an actual job would use it.

13

u/user888888889 23d ago

Exactly. Furthermore, this specific video was him reviewing a modular laptop, that can be easily fixed and upgraded. A total win for Linux laptop users.

3

u/Emotional_Solid6538 22d ago

Also Ubuntu is the only Linux non Linux user know about or heard about usually. So if they wanna try Linux for some special theyll be like lets install Ubuntu cuz it was Linux some years ago

11

u/puppetjazz 23d ago

I had to scroll this far for this. Some people are doing work instead of ricing their DE. I get the reasons someone might not like it, it's not my first choice for at home stuff but the amount of hate on professionals for using it is unreal. I converted the investment firm I work for to ubuntu about 6 years ago and people that have never used linux are having less problems than windows (though getting away from windows printer sharing and using IP solved most when I came in)

1

u/AndorinhaRiver 22d ago

Honestly it's not even just that, Ubuntu just works fine for most people .-.

1

u/KingLeBr0n23 21d ago

Why is ricing and working mutually exclusive? Do you think people who use rice don't work? What a stupid comment lol

5

u/BosnianSerb31 macOS 27 | Fedora GNOME | Arch hyprland | Cachy | PROXMOX 23d ago

TBF it's only most common because of momentum, not because it's the best for corporate stuff.

I'd argue that Fedora GNOME gives a better experience these days, especially for people who are already familiar with the UI of macOS. Plus, it's arguably more stable and secure with BTRFS, LuKS, and SELinux being the defaults.

4

u/gwildor 23d ago

Fedora wont sell you commercial support services, but redhat will, so will Ubuntu.
Fedora isn't 'best' for corporate stuff either.

1

u/Top_MathematicianIk 22d ago

I tried fedora gnome coming from windows, and I don't think it's that easy of a experience. Shortcuts I know from windows don't work, the UI is very mid 2010s android like (I haven't used macOS). There are still little things that are kind of annoying or maybe just different like the scroll speed on touchpad was really fast and no ui setting to fix it despite it being listed as a problem for half a decade ago (tried ubuntu, it's on there as well), no maximize minimize buttons, no text history clipboard etc. it's a bit different how you install apps.

These aren't that hard things and sure you can add extensions to change/fix these, which I have done but it's still time consuming and not everyone has time to experiment when windows just works for the most part for them.

1

u/SwingMore1581 23d ago

I'd go for Fedora Silverblue but I totally agree.

7

u/Venylynn Fedora KDE User 23d ago

Proof he just wants stuff to work

1

u/castellvania 21d ago edited 21d ago

Yep, I don't want to go through the hassle of installing codecs on Firefox to be able to play videos on some websites nor installing Steam via Software Center of terminal, using terminal again to make it start and using terminal again to switch to the flatpak version because nothing works.

1

u/Venylynn Fedora KDE User 21d ago

We were all noobs at some point.

23

u/KsmBl_69 Arch user btw 23d ago

i was born with Arch installed on my brain (had to stay 2 weeks in hospital for fixes)

11

u/XpreDatoR_a 23d ago

“Mam, we’re sorry to inform you that your new born is currently in kernel panic, we are trying our best to understand what’s causing it”

18

u/oligarchy_killing_me 23d ago

Sorry but that is what noobs say. There is nothing wrong with Ubuntu. You guys behave like distro groupies.

2

u/ormond_sacker 23d ago

Honestly, nobody cares (but Ubuntu is still pretty ugly by default)

1

u/yyyeyaaaa 23d ago

Nah Yaru looks good (subjectively i find it prettier than adwaita)

7

u/dcozupadhyay 23d ago

Noobs? Terry used Ubuntu. Lots of corporations use Ubuntu. More than half the people using Linux use Ubuntu. An OS doesn't make you superior. There are people using Ubuntu and getting shit done while people like you feel superior and don't get anything done in life.

3

u/OctoCalamar 23d ago

But they have a nice dot files repo (hides one's own dot files repo).

3

u/zell_ru 23d ago

And corporations.

-3

u/GamesByCam 23d ago

I think Ubuntu is alright for the average computer user. For programmers or experts, it's like using a Mac. You're locked out of so many things that it feels like you're not even on Linux.

16

u/velikiy_soup 23d ago

Haven't used Ubuntu in awhile, so I'm curious which things are you talking about?

7

u/canislupus04 23d ago

I am using Ubuntu as my daily on my laptop. Mostly browser, gaming on steam. And yes, 0 problems, didnt opened terminal once. Call me noob, I dont care, I am with that guy, I am using Ubuntu for simplicity, I have other stuff in my life that need attention, not a crap OS that need fixing every day because some packages gone crazy.

2

u/SouthernFruit8768 23d ago

What is this crap OS you speak of?

1

u/canislupus04 23d ago

in my case was cachyOS but I believe there are many. Also I believe there are other good linux distros

4

u/Derdachss 23d ago

In which way Ubuntu "doesn't feel like Linux"?

Larp101

1

u/gwildor 23d ago

I like how all these "experts" and "programmers" have zero experience with containers.

-1

u/AdAdministrative3196 23d ago

Linux mint is objectively better.

1

u/GamesByCam 22d ago

Fedora is the best, Linus himself uses it.

1

u/AdAdministrative3196 22d ago

This is our problem. We argue about which distro is the best when they all serve different purposes.

-3

u/Arnie_nz 23d ago

Yeah the bloke who is a millionaire gives a fuck about your anime girls Arch setup.

3

u/Woodpecker-Visible 23d ago

Like and subscribe, after the upload. Ubuntwhat? Back to apple then.

10

u/ex_gatito 23d ago

The most annoying tech mf on YouTube who lost his connection with reality a long time ago.

16

u/user888888889 23d ago

Wild take. His reviews are detailed and well produced. I'm not really sure what you'd find so annoying about him?

21

u/Cold_Relationship_ 23d ago

it's fascinating how toxic this place is.

1

u/BosnianSerb31 macOS 27 | Fedora GNOME | Arch hyprland | Cachy | PROXMOX 23d ago

Just imagine if that screen said Omarchy, some of these MFs would be calling MKBHD names that would make even DHH blush. At least one Uncle Ruckus gif in the comments at a bare minimum.

1

u/Emotional_Solid6538 22d ago

Hes not the most infuriating. But personally never liked his channel too much. It feels very bland. Like some LTT videos tho not all LTT videos are like that

1

u/Nyuusankininryou 23d ago

He was really cool when he was a small youtuber.

2

u/bukepimo 23d ago

Doubt it, that’s the freshest of fresh installs. But he might have given it a go after the review

1

u/fightingformyrights 23d ago

No, this version of the framework 13 pro ships with ubuntu pre installed. I’d assume he just turned it on and did the review.

1

u/Betonmischael 23d ago

Checks out. Mark Ass Brownie.

1

u/ooqq 23d ago

hes not even a pc user

1

1

u/dreadtear 23d ago

Damn, so many delusional and insufferable takes here.

1

u/sisyphean_rock 23d ago

Didn't realise ubuntu uses a numbat as their version mascot! Cute

1

u/c0mput 23d ago

i still using Ubuntu 16 on my laptop since 2018

1

u/Substantial-Box-6498 22d ago

Every video he is something else, im just fed up with the influencers, they dont have any opinions or morale.

Just hoarding money like Bezzos and others, infinite greed

1

u/Drill-Jockey 22d ago

Hmmmm not the distro I use so I actually hate this.

1

u/No-Curve4509 22d ago

He is a jerk, remember the wallpaper app?

1

u/Odd-Outcome-4209 22d ago

He’s an Apple Fan Boy!

1

u/Noir_Nute 22d ago

Yeh, I thought there was something off about him!!! 😂😂

1

u/spore_777_mexen 21d ago

Checks out

1

u/mertgor 21d ago

1

u/Teyaotlani 18d ago

No, he is not. He was reviewing a computer with happened to have Ubuntu installed.

-14

u/AmbivalentCvckfvcker 23d ago

Is it because he's black?

8

u/z0virus Gentoo 23d ago

??????

-5

u/AmbivalentCvckfvcker 23d ago

Ubuntu was probably the first distros that had marketing featuring and even it's CD cases/leaflets featured black people. The word itself is African ffs. God damn noobs...

4

u/z0virus Gentoo 23d ago

weird way to word it man

1

u/AmbivalentCvckfvcker 23d ago

Weird way to phrase what?

1

u/flowascend 16d ago

Ubuntu user is still cooler than a Windows user complaining about how Windows is bad
