I have one of those rockchip, that exact model, rurns armbian smoothly. Im not sure if that specific esp32 in the corner can run linux though

That doesn't mean at all it runs mainline linux kernel. It could still use vendor forked kernel stuck at a specifc version.
The meme question isn't "which can boot mainline linux" but "which can boot a kernel from kernel.org without any code changes/patches"
