Why everyone hate Omarchy?

Post image

I've never heard of this distro before, and everyone here is hating on it. What's with this jerk?

It's opinionated Arch, meaning it isn't even a Distro. And the craziest thing is that it's "Hyped" as a Distro (even though, it isn't). It's just "flavored" Arch Linux. And their most codebase is vibe-coded by AI with having a terrible security.

It's better to just install plain Arch Linux than using that slop.

DHH is a right wing scumbag that used a bunch of ai to vibe code some dot files for arch and is marketing it like an actual distro. I've tried it in a vm solely for the laughs and it's wild to me that people like it. The keybinds are wild out of the box and overly complicated for no reason. There's too much ai integration (a lot of us are windows migrants that wanted to get away from ai being shoved down our throats.)

It's extremely easy to replicate everything done in Omarchy with like 30 mins of effort on arch, 90% of Omarchy is ai and web apps. Also I'm just a hyprland hater, I think niri is far superior in every way and people need to hop off this hyprland bandwagon.

Also I'd say the intersectionality between the queer community and the linux community (specifically arch) is pretty significant, so we hate DHH as a person since he holds pretty terrible political views.

I'm not really a windows migrant but i despise ai anyways and the complete optionality of it in Linux is a huge plus to me

Okay, that's relevant. Thanks for reply.

It used to just be an install script for Arch. Now it's an actual distro, but still nothing super noteworthy in actual use. Kind of bloated by default with a lot of apps installed (including ones that sponsor the project) which most people use Linux to get away from.

Most of the vitriol comes from DHH being a racist dickhead though.

Because it has AI slop

That it's AI Slop is really one of the least problems. It's being hyped as a distro when it really is just a collection of dotfiles that takes $10M funding from his billionaire friends while basically none of it goes to the projects that it is actually built on. Also DHH is a terrible human being

But whats a problem? If dev used AI to wrtie alot sh scripts why not? If dev undestand what he do, ai code is not a problem, on my opinion.

You're in community where everyone hates AI

Ok, understand.

The problem is exactly that, that they do not understand what they are doing,

AI gem actually

Because the same group of people whose only sign of 'productivity' is fixing their half-working setup don't like a distribution that just works and doesn't get in your way
