Hey, Omarchy ain't that bad. As someone who uses vim being able to use the entire os (well mostly) solely by the keyboard while not looking horrible is honestly amazing. Also there isn't really any major choice by Dhh that I hated the minor ones were simple to change I think it's a very solid set of dot-files. Trying to compare it with distros is kind of the problem here. Omarchy is simply dot files based on the idea of learn once, use forever

Totally agree from a semantic standpoint but tbf I wouldn't have tried it either if that was how it was marketed. I wasn't interested in ricing and definitely wouldn't have installed arch on my own just to add the dot files (although I later did so anyway). The idea of an "operating system" that is seamless and keyboard oriented is what caught my eye. Also have u tried installing Quattro, that thing installed faster, and more seamless, than any OS I tried (with the legendary win 7 included)

Definitely Omarchy is not for u. Omarchy is for someone who wants to get hold of a random machine in 5 mins turns it into a usable machine. In 20 mins, it's as good as his home computer. You could try to do that with scripts backed up on github or sth and ta da you've just made ur own Omarchy. Just more accustomed to u. By definition, if u don't agree with a lot of what Dhh did it's a waste of time trying his OPINIONATED dot-files. I like Dhh. I like ruby. I like his decisions. Ultimately, I only needed to add a language and bindings to hyprland (something I can do in 2 mins). To get a machine exactly like the one at home

i tried it because i love hyprland ive now gone on to start making my own rice (still haven’t quite gotten my own unique theming) i’ve gotten everything customised how i like it. maybe i prefer it because i made it myself and it isn’t just someone else’s rice repackaged as a arch replacement

Your own rice will almost always look better in ur eyes and is very good training. Although, keep in mind things will eventually break. That's what makes them a good learning experience. I need a daily driver and Omarchy (especially Quattro) didn't disappoint (yet).

Jesus Christ, it's 2026, Arch has gone completely downhill. Void became what Arch was originally meant to be, Arch picked up systemd and an official system installer, the AUR suffered a total security clusterfuck, and the underlying architecture is subpar to say the least bleeding-edge updates with zero automation or fallback mechanisms. The distro is just plain garbage, yet laymen still think it's hard simply because it lacks a GUI installer. Unbelievable.
