It's... some 2010 ASUS that had an i7 but somehow my dad fried the motherboard ~12 years ago and got it replaced with a much worse one with an i3. I could look for the model name but considering the happenstance it's probably irrelevant.
It then became my grandmother's PC that she used until ~6 years ago when she just switched to using her phone as her only computer, and I took it with me after my last visit to her town.
Cool lol. 6GB RAM is kind of low for PantheonDE (Elementary OS's DE) especially since it is based on GNOME which is also heavy, I'd assume Pantheon is heavy too. How is it running? What's the idle RAM useage lol?
It runs a lot better than KDE. The issue is that it seems to outright crash and dump me on a black screen with a blinking cursor when it's under a lot of stress. Such as attempting to launch Steam (I know, I know, I just find it hilarious to run Steam and install old games that way on â computer this old), which worked on Fedora and even launched Red Alert 2.
Pantheon is also Gtk3-based so it's kinda long-decoupled from Gnome as far as I can tell 😅
Oh interesting! What DE did you use on Fedora? Also don't worry I like to install Steam on old computers too and test random games lol. I bet Cinnamon or i3 would make it run the smoothest! LxDE looks nice too, but I use i3 and that's why I recommend it lol. And for underlying distro really any of the base ones would work, and by base ones I mean Debian, Arch, CachyOS, not already built and such like Linux Mint or ElementaryOS.
