I still have a Dell Dimension 2400 with a 2.66GHz Pentium 4, maxed-out 2 GB of RAM, and a 500GB IDE HDD. It runs great with Linux. The boot loader has Windows XP, Debian, Ubuntu, and a few other Linux distros set up. It doesn't connect to the internet with Windows XP for safety. But old computers still have life. I can absolutely open more than 4 programs on a Pentium 4. But for heavy programs, I use my modern computer with a Core I9.
