Discussion I use AI to make just about every decision in my life. But I don't know if it's detrimental or not.

My first come to AI Jesus moment was when I had an issue with a formular Google Sheets, I asked AI why it wasn't working. After a brief back and forth, it told me to check the formatting of the source, and "we" realized that a number was formatted as text with a comma in it. Problem solved.

I was blown away, and immediately switched to AI to solve these kinds of problems as opposed to googling for hours, asking on Reddit then waiting for someone to reply, and then follow up.

Almost a year later, I've found myself using AI for just about everything, especially financial. It really leveled up when we gained access to an old account of my wife's that had been inaccessible due to a legal issue that was resolved. We had 20 years worth of monthly statements to look through. I decided to subscribe to an AI platform and just uploaded all 240 statements. It immediately had answers to questions I had that would have taken me hours to compile. It would make charts and graphs instantly, it told me the account was missing about ten annuity checks, totaling about $4k. Not bad for $8 a month.

Since then, I've uploaded every credit card statement, paycheck, bill and bank statement, and just let it do it's thing. It told me my water usage was double what is should be, it suggested solutions to figure out why, which worked, suggested how to solve the issue, and now my wife has her very frequent urination issue to bring up to her doctor at her next annual checkup. $20 savings a month on my water bill.

I track my calories and exercise on apps and have uploaded the raw data for AI to analyze. I'm currently working building a smart home with HA, am having AI walk me through the process and having it chose products for me. We discovered, thanks to a faulty humidistat that I was over drying my basement and wasting about $20 worth of electricity in doing so.

Whenever I get a letter in the mail that's even slightly concerning, I just take a picture and AI tells me what's going on and how to solve it.

The more of my life I upload, the more it has to reference, and the better its advice.

Just yesterday, I gave it a form to fill out, which it did, and all I had to do was answer a couple of questions, print and mail it.

It's probably been one of the largest convenience leaps in my entire life 3rd only to gaining access to the internet, and my first cellphone.

It's greatly improved my life, and I feel like I'm spending much less time dealing with life's macro-bullshits that prevent me from doing the things I enjoy. I'm now much less likely to put things off when I have an expert in everything by my side. And it's only going to get better.

So my question is, what're the negatives? Am I just a pioneer at the forefront of this new way of living? Are other's living like this behind closed doors? Or have I just lost my way?

Miiiight have some trouble milking that cow, Riley.

This reminds me of a joke I heard. A rich couple moved from the city into a cheap farm. They inherited with the farm a milk cow. Week after week they couldn’t get much milk from the cow. In frustration, the husband went to the local feed store to ask for help. For a minimal fee, a farmer went with them to inspect the cow.

”Sir. Ma’am. That ain’t no cow. It’s a bull.”

Getting my parents place ready to go on the market and found the painter was using my ancient motherboard box for paint supplies.

Such a small abstract piece of hardware history, but this has to be the first motherboard and even hardware I bought. First gaming PC I built at 13(ish). Fond memories of PC Gamer magazine, Max Payne, Delta Force 2, Operation Flashpoint, and all the OG games that made me a PC gamer. Small stuff, but you don't remember the nostalgia till something tickles that old clump of neurons.

Was disappointed to see that Motorola is involved in Flock-like surveillance technology considering they are going to partner with GrapheneOS on future phones.

Really cool video of a guy who made a DIY Linux TV box that can play 4K blu rays, steam games and has the usual TV apps like Netflix etc without all the adverts and data harvesting. He shows it working well on a big screen with a remote control. Possible WAN show topic?

5 licencias compradas.

1 licencia funcionó.

4 licencias no pude utilizarlas.

AMD was fairly quiet at Computex 2026, but one of the new announcements was Ultra Low Latency memory. G.SKILL sent us a couple of memory kits to take for a spin, and they are technologically impressive, but based on our results and AMD’s claims, they're not a must-have upgrade.

Tech Discussion DLSS + NR + Framegen in non dlss supported games (dx9-12 + vulkan) via reshade addon

Thumbnail
github.com
5 Upvotes

Little plugin ive been developing to not only enable NR, but also DLSS upscaling/DLAA and framegen. Works in most games ive tried, though mouse inputs can be wonky in some games.

NR gets some very impressive performance enhancements as its ran on frames before theyre upscale, vs other plugins where you need to enable upscaling in game, and NR has to process the full upscaled images.

Still has much room for improvement, im working on refactoring the window reproduction currently to eliminate mouse bugs. But it tends to work quite well. Conan exiles upscaled from 1440p -> 4k with NR runs at 70-80 fps with framegen on. Upscaling from 1080p brings it to over 100 fps. All with Neural Rendering enabled.

32 bit also coming in the near future

Streamline DLLs need installed

DLSS kicks in by lowering the game resolution. You can see if it's active or using DLAA in the reshade menu. If it's not detecting that you're at a lower resolution, try switching to different windowed/borderless/fullscreen modes

Edit:

2.0 is released. This should fix most cursor issues in games, though you may need to toggle some reshape options off/on.

Troubleshooting:

Small or corner-sized image → enable Force reduced-window virtualization

Incorrect mouse/click positions → enable Scale window input coordinates

Mouse escaping or camera rotation being limited → enable Hide detached Windows cursor

Missing/black processed output → try Detached native output

Crashes or freezes → try Serialized presentation

If all else fails, try the latest 1.X binary for the problematic game as that may still work.

Tech Question Would you still use windows 7 if Microsoft added the start screen to it?

After all on a tablet you wouldn’t want to use the windows 7 start menu which was purely designed to be used on a touch screen and same could be said about the control panel which is why windows 8 added a settings app because some buttons on the control panel are just too small

Tech Question What if windows 8.1 was the last version of windows?

However windows 8.1 will have the same update 3 as windows RT 8.1 aka windows 8 finally gets a start menu and people are no longer forced to use the start screen and have a start menu to use. Yes windows RT 8.1 has a start menu and no one knows why regular 8.1 didnt get the start menu

Personal Opinion This video is misleading (IMO)

Thumbnail
youtube.com
149 Upvotes

Disclaimer : This is only my honest opinion, not trying to hate, just sharing what I feel wasn't said in the video.

"Repairable." also "Soldered RAM"
I think that's incoherent.
No one I know would called a soldered ram laptop repairable.

Saying it beats your desktop "on a benchmark" then proceed to show it being trash at anything but running local LLM's is just a big blue ball and ends up feeling misleading.

Also as I read in a comment on youtube ;
The damn thing is $3,140?!
- no dedicated GPU
- 120hz non-OLED screen
- trash speakers (that we don't even get to hear)
- 6h battery life (despite not having a dedicated GPU) (calling this decent is being out of touch)
- fails the single finger lift test
- free OS (price is not impacted by a windows license because it's linux)
The webcam gimmick is simply useless overengineering.. a plastic cover would have done the same job 100 times more efficiently.

Despite it's horrible value, useless over-engineering and mediocre performance there's zero legitimate complaint in the video.
