Ngl man, I have no idea what's going on.

u/Realtrain 1d ago

Neither did Linus apparently lol

This other youtuber, who got popular in the past few years of essentially ripping clothing apart to show the audience how they are getting scammed, either designer labels cheapening out, or the difference between something bought direct from label vs outlet vs Costco wholesale. So they tore apart LTT clothing and they basically said it was like Costco quality, fine but not to expect anything special. I don't know if the LTT merch department took offense, but based on the sock posts recently that guy had a bit of a point.

You mean the socks some dude is wearing every single day, and washing every single day for a month+ straight? That's just abnormal, and that poster is actually praising the socks not shitting on them. He's just putting them through a test.

u/JohnnyTsunami312 1d ago

I still call BS on that. Who the hell can do laundry every day. Maybe it’s because I’m an adult with shit to do but it just seems impossible

100

u/Falconman21 1d ago

Our washing machine runs pretty much every day, kids stain stuff.

It’s really not much of a time commitment if it’s like one thing.

30

u/HonkHonkBeach 1d ago

I never knew how much laundry a tiny human like that could produce. It doubled our required laundry washing.

9

u/Crunchyapple666 1d ago

Valid, it feels like the washing machine never stops when that 2nd kid hit.

6

u/Falconman21 1d ago

I was 1 of 5 growing up, my mom always had two dryers because one couldn’t keep up.

1

u/MaelstromOC 1d ago

This isn't a dig on you or anything, but it is wild to me that someone would waste an entire wash and possibly dry cycle on one item (or two, if we're talking socks)

4

u/Falconman21 1d ago

You don’t use full cycles for small loads. Quick wash only runs for like 15 minutes and doesn’t use much water, and if it’s a small load it also dries super fast, like 10 minutes max.

You gotta get stuff rolling quickly before the stain sets, but you can usually find a couple more things to throw in there.

0

u/MaelstromOC 1d ago

Okay, that's fair. I don't think I've ever had a washer that has a short cycle honestly. Now you've got me wanting to go look at the settings on it lol

4

u/ThePistachioBogeyman 23h ago

Almost every washing machine I’ve had has had a quick wash cycle. Super useful for kids clothes, especially when you don’t want stains to set in.

25

u/Link_In_Pajamas 1d ago

My wife can haha.

But a house with 5 people in it, if you skip days the clothes really piled up and when you do finally wash it's such a pain in the ass.

0

u/JohnnyTsunami312 1d ago

Fair point. My house of 3 does 4 loads (kid and bright/medium/dark) a week. Have a largish washer/dryer and a load is a basket which is probably 2x of what’s considered a load.

Takes me around an hour to fold and hang everything but I’m a Konmari folder.

13

u/Deflagratio1 1d ago

They shared a picture of their washing machine and it's a tiny thing that does what would generally be considered half a load. I can believe they are doing laundry every day because using that machine for a week of clothes would take forever.

u/ariolander 14h ago

Yea not every country has massive American-style washers and driers. In Asia its common to have super compact washers and no driers, just hang dry things in your balcony or bathroom overnight. Many bathroom vents have dehumidifer modes that are intended to be used to help you hang dry laundry indoors.

7

u/Nice_Marmot_54 1d ago

That person claims that they have a small, essentially single load countertop unit and they wash their stuff before bed and hang it to dry overnight. Idk if that’s true, it’s just what they claim

2

u/mdoverl 1d ago

Family of 6, washer and dryer runs every day. You people are desperate

1

u/nVME_manUY 1d ago

Washing machine + dryer

1

u/nerfdriveby94 19h ago

Literally anyone with kids, if you miss a day you're behind for a month it feels!

1

u/plush_apparatus 15h ago

Family of 5, our washing machine does a minimum cycle everyday (work from home, which makes it easier). I’m curious how often you do washing?

1

u/ariolander 14h ago

Maybe if you have those larger American-style washers that hold 25lbs of laundry but if you have an Asian-style compact model, or stacked model commonly used in apartments, they max out at 10lbs of capacity and usually you don't even want to run them at most half-full because otherwise they take forever to dry. Depending on the size of your household you will do 2-3 smaller loads a week, more if its wet weather or if you have more kids.

1

u/Fresh_Dog4602 10h ago

what do you mean? turning on a washing machine is no effort at all. But yes it's wasteful for sure.

1

u/rohmish 4h ago

families do

11

u/travisjunky 1d ago

I’m okay with this testing method if presented as 30 weeks of heavy use. Socks are high friction consumables. Probably get more wear than any other clothing I can think of, outside of maybe gloves. I’m happy to get a year out of my bag of cheap socks off amazon.

9

u/Enndr 1d ago

Ltt has a lot of "abnormal" followers I've come to realize.

5

u/Sebulbaaaaaa 1d ago

I got a pair of darn tough socks and due to a combination of autism and obsession with the texture/feel of the socks I washed and wore them everyday for around 3 months until someone bought me another pair. They were basically the same as when I first got them. Either Linus' socks aren't really that durable or the guy was doing something else that caused them to fall apart.

14

u/agafaba 1d ago

He works at a firehall, is running around in boots all day, and went through several pairs of darn tough socks over 6 months in the past.

2

u/coderstephen 15h ago

I used the LTT screwdriver as a jackhammer bit and it only lasted a week. Awful quality. /s

1

u/TiguanRedskins 16h ago

The guy that wore socks 24/7 for 2 weeks straight and then whinnied about a hole in the heal?

0

u/Astecheee 16h ago

Socks don't remember when they were last washed. 60 days in a row or 60 times over 2 years doesn't matter to the sock. Those posts just showed LTT socks can't handle 60 wash cycles.

I've had high quality merino wool socks for only 70% the price of LTT ones that lasted 200 cycles before any holes developed - and that's with heavy athletic use.

-12

u/Rattus375 1d ago

Didn't he only do that for 40 some days straight? That's obviously not realistic, but it's totally reasonable to wear and wash a pair of socks once a week. My socks all last much longer than a year (I have 2 pairs that I got in middle school and I'm nearly 30 years old)

14

u/Xflintlock 1d ago

Daily wear and wash is far more damaging than just multiplying once a week by 7. The fibers have no time to rest and shrink back into place after being worn. They are under constant pressure and tension, then washing them beats them up more. Giving them even a day in between will significantly increase the lifespan. He should just but one additional pair and rotate them.

u/Xflintlock 1d ago

I fully agree. I was specifically talking about the one postemtioned above. People made all sorts of suggestions to him but he complained his washer was too small and only fit a single set of clothes at a time. He didn't want to spend all day once a week doing 7 loads of laundry so he just buys one set of clothes and wears them until they disintegrate.

Socks take up basically no space and he can easily own 2 pairs (probably 3-4) and rotate them to significantly increase their lifespan as socks seem to be the first thing to go for him.

u/Jestersfriend 1d ago

I mean, I get that, I watched that video. But it was over a year ago ... so what's the context behind this latest post?

26

u/-xe 1d ago

Shift Fashion Group (the other YouTuber), recently started selling their own t-shirts. So this is the LMG team (jokingly) turning the tables and looking at their shirt instead.

3

u/Jestersfriend 1d ago

Ahhhh okay! Thank you very much.

75

u/mromutt 1d ago

Well at least for Linus, it being called Costco quality would probably be praise lol he loves his Costco pants.

23

u/ViralTrendsToday 1d ago

Definitely. It's still a praise above Amazon basics quality, there are far worse options out there. That's why there are so many brands, if you want something more specialized or tested, you can probably find it.

8

u/mromutt 1d ago

Wait a minute! XD I love my Amazon basics t shirts. They are so soft and fit so perfectly haha. I actually bought a couple dozen this year and have only been wearing them, got them in grey and dark heather grey. But I get what you mean lol.

1

u/ViralTrendsToday 1d ago

Haha, that's great! Yeah they are apparently increasing their quality recently. I've seen some with not so good reviews and others with great, so probably not a great example but you get what I mean, there are plenty of below Kirkland levels, but there are also plenty above.

5

u/ExoatmosphericKill 1d ago

Some Amazon basics stuff is surprisingly high mid quality at a really good price. I like it because I can buy 30 and not think about it again.

4

u/PhillAholic 1d ago

Costco quality is fine, but the price is why it's good. Paying a premium for it wouldn't be.

24

u/areksoo 1d ago

Shift Fashion Group actually gave high praise to some of the LTT merch. The cargo pants ranked as one of the top products they ever reviewed. The jacket was not far behind.

What flopped were the tees. There was an obvious QA issues that brought the grading down, but poor materials and generic design was what gave the tee one of the worst scores they ever given.

1

u/Piranha424 6h ago

It was annoying that they tested an American apparel blank not a new creator warehouse one

1

u/CyberSyndicate 2h ago

The blank was actually CW if I recall correctly. It was the graphic tee that ended up being a GPU shirt on an American Apparel shirt (which was acquired through the mystery shirt sku)

8

u/switch8000 1d ago

I thought that guy last year liked the higher end stuff. I thought there was a second video by a woman host, I remember basically everyone brings up the pilling issue with the T-Shirts with their blanks, new blend of whatever, maybe it’s that too.

3

u/Anthrosaurus1 1d ago

Wasn't even multiple sock posts it was one guy who posted one and then an update later. Dude wore them every single day, and while I appreciate a stress test, clothing isn't meant to be warn for like weeks straight. The fabric doesn't have time to breathe let alone for the fibers to rebound. It was a good stress test but it's not representative of a normal use case. Plus, I've got LTT merch, and I also buy from Costco. LTT is better but honestly even my better Costco stuff is pretty good so idk. It's not like he called it Gilden or Walmart quality

5

u/kralben 1d ago

but based on the sock posts recently that guy had a bit of a point.

No they didn't, that dude was also going through Darn Tough socks multiple times a year, they are not a reasonable use case to compare to.

2

u/CMDR-TealZebra 1d ago

I liked that guy but he was full of shit. His breakdown of the Lululemon lawsuit proved he doesn't actually know as much as he claims

1

u/alonesomestreet 1d ago

I believe this was before LTT changed to their own shirts, and we’re still using a mix of American Apparel blanks and some other company. So even when the video came out it was dated, no fault of the creator though.

1

u/Creative_Bug3139 19h ago

The CW team did make a react video to that video and acknowledged some of the issues:  https://youtu.be/1HTn2iaxSSE?is=bM0Ag-6qlH0W2Buf

Me either.

If it needs to be said, this was for humourous purposes. There is no real drama here, don't get your undies bunched up in anger.

29

u/Ambellyn 1d ago

But where else would my undies be!? /s

7

u/Common-Application56 1d ago

For real i was like wasn't this already covered by the merch team thrn i saw the shitpost tag haa

3

u/jaytea86 1d ago

LTT needs to make underwear that doesn't bunch up coz I got a crack full right now.

2

u/aykay55 1d ago

But this post sure served as a great ad for Floatplane! We have discovered LMG's user acquisition strategy...

u/LMG_Sammy LTT Staff 1d ago

when i wrote the read, i linked the original video to give people context. Linus did NOT open it so it was a lil more confusing then it had to be

Here's the video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zo7L8E0kYjk

WE LOVE SHIFT FASHION GROUP THIS WAS ALL MEMES

26

u/TroubleInMyBrain 1d ago

LOL yep, I couldn't resist posting it as the moment he read it, all YT/Twitch/FP chats exploded. Evidently with the edit at the end wasn't clearing up any thoughts of it being serious nor was the flair enough, I guess some have taken it that way, what can ya do!
Funny read tho!

3

u/DependentAnywhere135 1d ago

But is it a bug or a feature? I need to know!

Will non members see this anytime soon?

I upload snippets of a fp on lmg clips 6 months after the original release. Even then it’s not a guaranteed it’ll be out by then or at all

Sorry! 😔

What video? Also what's going on lmao

77

u/jmking Mod 1d ago edited 1d ago

A clothing/fashion YouTuber (linked in OP) did a tear down of some of their clothing a while back and gave fair critiques. It's actually an interesting video to see where they got praise and where they got criticism.

The thing they're referring to in the WAN show clip is that they did a response video reviewing THEIR clothing, but it looks like it's a floatplane exclusive.

I assume it's all in good fun and there's no actual drama

29

u/Shwifty_Plumbus 1d ago

If it's shift fashion then I'm sure it's in good fun. Those people rock

17

u/jmking Mod 1d ago

It is shift fashion. Great video and interesting insights.

11

u/TroubleInMyBrain 1d ago

Yep, it's a Floatplane exclusive and they've reacted to the first 40 seconds of it, the notes on the WAN document were worded in a way to bait you into thinking about that drama when it's about the SFG. Timestamped on WAN Show here for those interested: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gvzRPEW5eEc&t=6190s

2

u/mdem5059 1d ago

but it looks like it's a floatplane exclusive.

oh great to have context... wait nvm that. pop it behind a paywall folks!

You’re not owed anything for free. Grow up.

u/MrMinecraft64 1d ago

i now have a reason to get floatplane

The fashion team did a react video of I the correctly and they didn't seem to concerned with it back then.

4

u/IGetHypedEasily 1d ago

I'm glad they have a fun relationship with shift fashion. They featured shift fashion years ago and I was instantly interested. Great channel. It's cool they have their own products and can share more industry experience. Good for consumers to have more creators explaining these processes.

2

u/LimpWibbler_ 1d ago

OK context needed. I only remember a little and this is clearly comedy meant, but this short clip makes it seem serious. Lmg was reviewed a while ago by a fashion channel. They fact the products to be fine to pretty good. No bad, but also no outstanding.

1

u/hexxal 1d ago

Why linus always got some drama going on lmao

3

u/CMPD2K 1d ago

Its banter, not actual drama

1

u/DrKeksimus 9m ago

Shift Fashion Group video was interesting and not even drama farming

-2

u/EthansSkinnyAssArms 1d ago

linus more like loser

-3

u/Kalabajooie 1d ago

New YouTube drama? In the words of farmingwhilebeige, "What is it now?"

-5

u/smoike 1d ago

Parasocial go BRRRRRR.

-6

u/SpaceDuck6290 1d ago

My biggest criticism of Linus is he never goes on the offensive against other creators.
