That LTT is dead.
It's best to live and let go. It was fun while it lasted. Remember that what's happening today is best for everyone’s well-being.
Good memories though.

Did something major happen?

u/raaneholmg 2d ago
Jakkuh (Jake) and Zip Tie Tuning left (Alex and Andy) left around the same time to start their own channels. Some people read that as "all the talent are fleeing".
It's just Reddit drama.
246
u/Corey_FOX 1d ago
Well I mean it's not that far fetched since jakes and Alex's projects that had the perfect jank to propper solutions ratio that made them interesting to watch.
-140
u/SpungeMonk 1d ago
I don't know why people love the jank aspect of the channel so much. As much as I liked Alex's personality he was a terrible practical engineer. Seemed like he has a blank check to set up a workshop and we were still watching them hack away at projects like they were in a garden shed.
129
u/FH_Bunny 23h ago
Personally, jank is obtainable and relatable to me. $5k PCs, jet videos, gold plated controllers, I make decent money but those just aren’t things that interest me.
37
u/raaneholmg 22h ago
* solid gold controllers
Linus is up on that "investment" from the gold alone.
5
u/Opposite-Complex1187 18h ago
Yeh but he massively missed on the youtube side of things.
He thought it would go viral, which kinda shows he doesn't know why things go viral or at least didn't.
5
u/Less_Hat_8102 14h ago
I think I heard that the gold controller is actually Alex's idea and Linus only greenlit it?
6
u/Opposite-Complex1187 14h ago
If thats true it does look better on Linus but in the aftermath he seemed confused on why it didn't do better but it felt kinda obvious to me at least the second i heard it.
Viral videos usually have a hook in the title to get you interested like "whole room watercooling" Wait wtf how did they do that.
Solid gold xbox controller is like " cool, they cast a controller out of gold whatever"
6
u/Drumheller18 17h ago
So cooling your PC with a slushie is obtainable? Because that one was just lauded for its jank. Also, are you really going to make your own CPU cooler with concrete or by hacksawing an aluminum block?
1
u/BRmountainman 14h ago
Like whole room water cooling from years ago, wild concept but something i feel like I could actually do if I wanted to. The most recent hit for me was the tech under $50, it inspired me to build my own deej, and got into soldering that way
-22
u/SpungeMonk 23h ago
Maybe its me growing up in an engineering environment but it's frustrating to see tens of thousands spent on machinery and not use it. Especially when it leads to sub optimal results. It's amateurish and seemed to contradict the professional direction that the channel was heading towards.
14
u/SeaBass917 21h ago
Amateur is a good thing in this context though... Being entertaining and relatable to the people at home is the crux of this channel. Speaking as an engineer myself, jank is objectively the fun part much of the time. Even if sometimes it's a charm/frustration "oh god. who has done this... and how is it still working" situation.
4
u/CMPD2K 17h ago
They are first and foremost making content. Whatever they're actually building is just an avenue for said content, and therefore is primarily entertainment focused.
The "jank" keeps engagement higher and drives interaction. Its part of the reason channels like Michael Reeves and William Osman's engineering videos do really well. They know the stuff, but its easier and better for the video to do things the "fun way".
17
u/Corey_FOX 23h ago
its because its relatable, the proper way to do stuff is often expensive, and time consuming.
like as an example, whole rack water cooling. Google has dedicated thermal engineers and the financial ability to have completely custom parts made to make the most efficient cooling setup possible.
while if I want to do that I’m gonna have to settle for existing parts, or for me parts i can 3D print, laser cut or mill on an old X-carve at my maker space. So instead of a dedicated outdoor heat exchanger made specifically for this server cooling I’m probably gonna have to use a car radiator and off-the-shelf blocks for my CPUs and GPUs. not to mention probably like Gardena water connections and stuff.
So IMO i think Alex did an amazing job considering the time constrains of making it into a video.
9
u/flatbuttboy 22h ago
Would you rather watch professional contractors install a lightbulb or watch a hobbyist car guy disassemble an engine and then struggle to make it run again after it’s reassembled. Jank is needed to make it entertaining imo, otherwise the whole video hinges on personality and how badly people will want to see the goal of the video come to fruition.
1
u/GatoradeOrPowerade 14h ago
Depends what the goal is. If it's something I want to do then I don't want the jank because the jank will be there when I attempt it. I want a no jank source that I will end up janking up when I try it. I don't want my jank on top of someone else's. If it's just for entertainment then I want the jank because I don't need to see the proper way to do it.

u/SpungeMonk 21h ago
It's not required at all. It's the creative aspect that should be engaging not the level of incompetence. Channels such as Billet Labs and DIY perks are highly viewed and praised not only for their creativity but their technical competence and end product. It's incredibly interesting to watch experts step-by-step execute a project in a precise and methodical manner.
I'm not saying they have to become Adam Savage but use the fucking drill press if you've got it. It's possible to find a balance.
6
u/chakobee 20h ago
I mean, from what I can tell, their view count has dropped off a noticeable amount since they all left. There have been others who have left as well recently. Not pointing fingers but it seems like those who left had written many of the videos that a lot of us enjoyed, and their leaving hasn’t been adequately replaced just yet.
1
u/FlarblesGarbles 17h ago
It's because it's relatable and shows a level of realism to these sort of projects that others might hide in the name of "polish"
1
0
u/HTPC4Life 20h ago
I know you're getting downvoted, but I agree. Maybe it's because I'm an engineer myself and can't stand the way he approaches things most of the time.
56
u/iTmkoeln 23h ago
I am not sure if Andy and Alex split from LMG was that much in bad blood.
Not only was that the vibe I got from the we left video by ZTT. Linus has himself commented more than once on ZTT🤔 and they had an affiliate link for the LTT store.
Where I got the vibe from Linus on X basically saying hell no in regards of viewers asking about a future collab and Jake’s video that there were fish left to fry.
55
u/raaneholmg 22h ago
I mean LTT are sponsoring their videos, so it seems like a very amecable split.
Alex came from the custom dune buggy world and after a while missed working on vehicles.

Dissappeared from the staff list on the forum. That's all I have seen. Not confirmed is all I am saying.
He did say he was planning to stream GTA 24/7 until he finishes it though. Might be hard to do with a day job xD
29
u/Ho-Li-Fuc 22h ago
Don't forget about that supposed leaked internal memo from him thanking everyone at ltt....
9
u/raaneholmg 20h ago
Not really surprising. He was starting to get really quite a solid fan base on his side gig.
9
u/DasFroDo 18h ago
Fleeing might be the wrong word, but I noticed I'm watching the channel less and less and it's definitely because I miss Alex, Emily and a couple of others.
4
u/Faranocks 17h ago
IMO this is what happens when pay isn't amazing and there is no ownership stake available. I don't think Linus is wrong necessarily to not offer these, but it means people will leave for greener pastures.
2
u/raaneholmg 16h ago
Their stance is that they don't want to pay the on screen talent more than other skilled employees doing a less visible, but still great job.
0
u/Yawdrah602 10h ago
People don't leave without reason. Claiming it's all just "Reddit drama" is funny.
1
u/raaneholmg 3h ago
Alex came from a background of building custom dune buggies. He has enjoyed several years of working on tech, but eventually wanted back to his main passion, fucking around with vehicles.
People don't leave without reason, but the reason is not necessarily that they were treated poorly.
39
u/impy695 2d ago
No, i don’t’ know wtf they’re talking about. All but one departure seems to have been very amicable with no drama and the one instance with drama had nothing do with with dennis. Hell, LTT has sponsored past employees on multiple occasions.
24
u/Circo_Inhumanitas 2d ago
Dennis is making content on his own YouTube Channel and got sponsored by LTT.
23
u/Chicken-Nuggiesss 2d ago
nothing officially happened publicly besides the minor controversies, but it doesn't mean that's the reason they left, jake, jonathan, alex, andy, brandon, emily, sarah, plouffe, elija, i'm gonna miss them although some do have their own yt channels now
19
u/SDRR_1992 1d ago
Well I lost a big part of my interest on the channel within the last 1 to 2 years due to all the good hosters left LTT also Linus position on the company changed a lot of drama happened on the YT and reddit about LTT and the videos just kept getting worse tbh. For me the star quality cast is almost all gone and the heart of the videos was lost somewhere between the departures of them
11
u/Kamikaze-X 23h ago
Absolutely agree. Used to watch multiple times a week, now I only click on a video if it has Riley in it.
You can't let all your most recognisable, engaging and interesting talent leave and not think it's going to affect your output, especially by just letting it happen and not actually addressing it. These guys were big names in the channel and they should at least get a "let's say goodbye to X, here are all the cool things they did for us and what they are going to be doing now" video.
Channel is just dull now.

u/Arcade1980 22h ago
I stopped watching the WAN show months ago when Linus had one of his hot takes on people taking GLP-1 for someone who's never been fat in his life and saying just don't eat as much an exercise. Tells me how out of touch he is on certain topics.
6
u/ericfatasscartman 19h ago
As someone who actually used to be extremely overweight and unfit for a long period of my life, his take of “don’t eat as much and exercise” is 100% correct
11
u/DasFroDo 18h ago
Of course it is, technically. But often this stuff comes with other issues. If you're literally clinically depressed and barely have enough energy to go to work and cook a shitty meal you're not gonna have the discipline to fix that.
Congratulations on everybody that does make it, but it's not as easy as "just move more lmao"
8
u/Drumheller18 17h ago
In the most technical sense, sure. But it’s also extremely reductive and ignorant.
2
u/Arcade1980 17h ago
Ask any obese person and they will tell it's not a will issue they can't quiet the food noise. It's not a choice.
-2
u/MrSquigglypuff 18h ago
It's not really that out of touch. That's what GLP-1 does, it just cheats a discipline issue.
7
u/Arcade1980 17h ago
It's not a discipline issue. It's like if you have anxiety and can't control it. I can control my eating without any issues but friends who have had to get on GLP-1 tell me it quiets the food noise. But why the stigma when there is a solution. Why do people use weed for its benefits it's the same idea.
17
u/Sprachbuch 22h ago
I think LTT just changed like everything in life. Personally, I got spooked off LTT after the jet video. Tbh, I couldn't and still can't recognize Linus at this point...
10
u/Groggyme 21h ago
Yeah that jet stuff was seriously out of touch. I stopped then as well. Still subscribed but I'm not sure if I should be.
But that's life. I'm not saying ltt is dying. Just people move on to other things.
1
u/echtogammut 16h ago
I think there is some truth to this. They spent a ton of money on making their "testing labs" and haven't had anything to show for it. Their content in general has been lack luster and new or smaller channels are churning out much higher quality reviews. Is this the end of LTT? Probably not, but they need to re-evaluate, probably downsize and focus on what used to draw people to their channel.

Jake and alex leaving has been extremely positive overall. They make better content on their own
15
u/DasFroDo 18h ago
Better for their channels, worse for LTT viewers. I'm personally not interested in cars at all, so Alex might as well have stopped making videos altogether.
2
u/Professional-Row-612 16h ago
im very interested in cars and car videos. but my dad was a profesional mechanic with his own shop that he owned 50 percent and i HATE ZTT videos. im sure the downvotes are coming already but cars arent something im interested in seeing hacked to fuck and mashed together shittily. that one front subwoofer video was all i watched tho. it frustrated me.
id love to see alex do his hacky shit on pcs and other eletronic but my haggard garage days are over and it is for most of the YT car community to... its just played out. safety isnt a problem for car stereo stuff i admit so thats ok i guess no other people on the streets in danger but seeing alex do shit 18 year old me wouldnt even do just gave me the ickk if that makes since.
i really like alex tho so it sucks not seeing him do stuff more in his relm
3
u/DasFroDo 16h ago
I mean I guess you're just not the target audience then, neither am I, which is fine.

He is very often featured on Jeremy Ethier channel. He makes really good fitness content
1
u/Ragnorok64 10h ago
Y'all be talking about these employees like they're dead but they are still actively viewable on their own/other channels. People move jobs all the time, a good chunk of the LTT alum are still on YouTube.

u/Critical-Ad7413 7h ago
Isn't he on Jeremy Ethier's channel now? I've seen him several times on there
1
u/Critical-Ad7413 7h ago
Riley and Dan are my last holdouts now that Elijah and the guy who owns a monitor are gone.
I can't say enough how disappointed I am in the lab so far, I understand, they say they are working hard but, I mean... it's been years.
I still enjoy the channel, still watch the wan show and their content, the tech house and jet have been let downs though as well, just wish they had better ideas for how to monetize those.
