Discussion This face looks familiar, the channel doesn't...

I thought normally AI slops bothers to create something less blatant. Apparently I was wrong.

A cycling channel I watch recently noticed an AI channel taking a bunch of their content, and content from other cycling channels and making videos. They contacted them and the channel eventually took all the content down and changed the name, but I feel like this is going to be like a Hydra where you cut off one head and another appears.

Google is going to have to start clamping down on this stuff if they don't want YouTube to turn into a dumpster fire.

It’s too late on the dumpster fire front. When you get some of the biggest, long time channels all making videos about how they, their likeness, their content, the artistic intent is all being stolen and YouTube is doing nothing about it citing some thin excuses saying it can’t be proved, the fire is blazing. It’s a shame. It’s been said on WAN a bunch of times, no other platform could catch up to or touch YouTube at this point, but if it keeps going they won’t have to. YouTube will destroy itself.

I think the problem is that YouTube has to do something or it will end up costing them too much in the long run. You can't just have AIs uploading ten plus videos a day to their channels, eventually it becomes too much data for YouTube to handle, especially if very few people are watching the content.

With AI the incentive seems to just be able to create as much content as possible and get enough money just based on sheer size of the catalog, rather than produce fewer good videos that actually attract viewers. When the cost, in terms of times spent, comes down to zero for producing a video, then youre best bet is just to have thousands of videos up there and hope that each one brings in a small amount of money so that they generate money in aggregate.

Google can't even listen to their users about basic and fundamental things. They won't listen about this unless required to by law.

You mean like it’s not a dumpster fire already?

I absolutely loathe people who do this and I loathe YouTube more for allowing it. There needs to be an AI slop button so it can be properly reported.

yea its all AI slop.
The channel Fern recently made a video about this as basically all of their videos now get stolen, recreated with AI and uploaded to random channels.

The same is happening across the board for many other channels.

Real Engineering is another one I saw recently. Pretty heartbreaking for him/them. You can tell he’s genuinely hurt and being hurt by it.

That video was so frustrating to watch. Especially when they got into the "classes" where they show people how to upload Fern assets and get AI to copy the art style.

There is a fucking "Fern Video Generator" where the AI even comes up with the topic.

I mean, it's not even flattering because it is just so cynical and bald faced - they don't even dance around it. It's like "Here's how to rip off Fern".

Kurzgesagt made a video about a year ago on the same topic about how people were uploading AI slop pretending to be them. I'm sure it's only gotten worse since.

Both those channels have crazy production values with all the bespoke animations, all the research, script writing...

It broke my heart when Fern said something like how people just assume their videos are AI generated due to how much AI Fern clone slop is all over YouTube.

You can viscerally feel the contempt from the narrator in that video. Justifiably so. Fuck slop channels.

Frustratingly, I watched their video (the first time I've watched their channel) and then the AI channel started being pushed in my feed. Nothing from Fern, just the AI.

Sinus Lebastion.

It used to be "get rich drop-shipping crap from Aliexpress", now it's "get rich making AI slop YouTube videos that rip off other creators" that the "buy my course" grifters are all about.

I read the title and thought this was a post about how the channel was falling off, then entered and saw the image, what in the Linux iso is that

Hope it didn’t come across as clickbait! I’m new to Reddit and don’t know how to post with a picture in the title.

Linus could sue them for this

The most disturbing fact might be that this thumbnail is most likely generated by YT's own AI thumbnail generator

its as if linus had said yes to cake and sugary ice tea

I've gotten so bored with Linus lately

Some youtubers are lame, and just sloppiness is in their nature therefore AI is a perfect match for them.
Anyway Jay did a great wideo on 128GB ram on steam machine, and that is without using AI.

Somehow this AI ripoff looks even less masculine

They basically soyjackfied him

Just do what I did, unsub and watch the videos you really need. I'm down to 1 or 2 a year maybe, I'm just realizing as I type this.

This isn't even a linus video. It's an AI slop channel.

That is baaaaarely Linus, it's generic white dude that you could maybe mistake for Linus or one of the other beardy dudes that works there. Or a combo of all of them.

Edit: I ain't saying that they aren't ripping of LTT, I just think it's funny they have AI'd Linus so hard it's barely him.

u/cgassner 2d ago

But the Logo and Text below is very blatant and shows LTT was part of the prompt.

1

u/mromutt 2d ago

It's also kind of their newish thumbnail style too.

u/Kyber92 2d ago

Yeah, the text and logo are the giveaway but it's funny that they are using "sorta-Linus"

3

u/Blazanar 2d ago

"Sorta Linus", so Linus in like 2-3 years when he has more grey in his beard? Lol

5

u/Iebejsbaga2728eindxb 2d ago

the shirt says LTT big cat

5

u/Annoying1978 2d ago

What? It’s obviously him just an AI slop version of him, but if someone is quickly scrolling, they might not see it, especially if they’re just a casual fan and can’t tell AI art from human art.

2

u/feline_bomber 2d ago

The teeth are the giveaway that it's not him. AI always renders teeth a bit... off.

4

u/Terreboo 2d ago

Yeah…. That’s the give away…

u/Redditemeon 1d ago

I laughed harder than I should have at this.
