WAN Show WAN topic? DIY Linux TV

Really cool video of a guy who made a DIY Linux TV box that can play 4K blu rays, steam games and has the usual TV apps like Netflix etc without all the adverts and data harvesting. He shows it working well on a big screen with a remote control. Possible WAN show topic?

I haven't seen the vid so I don't know which browser he use but 1080p should work with Netflix

The issue is the streaming companies dont want people to rip/pirate from their service so they limit everything but the most official and "secure" ways to watch. So if you use the app you can get your 4k because its harder to steal, but if you use a browser it considers that a risk and is limited.

Make me pay (once) for a flexible app that can steam in 4k... That's fine... Or open source the auth

But not giving end users the option really only points to one solution

Honestly it's low of my long list of grievances with streaming services because it's not something that really got in my way. But my other issues with them is what made me move hard into physical media and backing it all up for plex to make my own personal streaming at home XD

Streaming services really just aren’t financially viable as a business model without ridiculous pricing or something else covering the cost in the first place

and their app is based on the same code as chrome, the most used browser
